Blown amp?
So i had a 300 watt dual amp powering my 1200 watt kenwood sub. I know its way under powered an the amp over heats sometimes but now it just makes one constant thump no matter the volume. music doesnt even have to be turned on. i checked wiring an it all seems good to me. did i blow the amp?

Dual sucks. We sell it at the store. Well, we dont actually SELL them. I bought one from us, the 4 channel, used it till I got my sony, then just hucked it in the trash. I have had three of the sony 1200's, never had an issue, they were sold with the vehicle they were in.

does it "thump" when the radio turns on? if so then the amp is getting power before the radio. If the wiring is all set than it may just be because the amp is a POS. If the amp was blown you hear nothing coming from the sub.

Take your sub in the house and hook it up to a stereo, at a LOW level. Make sure that it is still functional. Next, your amp should have a light that signifies power on, it should be green. If the light comes on green when you turn on the ignition and then goes red, check for crossed wires, or the fuses. Check the RCA cables. I had a set go bad on me, they werent pinched or worn through, they just stopped transfering signal. Also, if all of these things check good, pull the stereo and make sure the remote wire is connected to REM or Power antenna (thats what I usually run mine to.
