I am interested in this too... I have seen a few 2nd gens with door speakers but it looks like the door panels have all been re-done and the speakers have a spacer between them and the panel (for clearance with the window when it is down I imagine)... If anyone has pictures I would really like to see

I would like to try this too. It shouldn't be too hard to make a spacer yourself if you use PVC pipe and round speakers. I am sure some sort of spacers are available though. How would you wire them? Would you just delete the speakers in the dash? I just replaced those.

Anyone have pics?

my MB Quarts came with a 1/2 inch spacer, i hope it is enough. and it looks like half of the speaker will be sitting in the pocket at the bottom of the door panel

if you have your pictures on a hosting site like Photobucket you can just cut and paste the [IMG] links into your post

i was thinking about doing this also, but i have recently changed my mind and im just gonna get some Q forms and mount some 6.5 inch components down there, im gonna leave the pioneer 4 ways i have in the back...and then im gonna put new i guess 4 inchers in the dash and run 6 speakers all around....then i just gotta make my decision on a sub that isnt gonna be huge, not too too loud, and possible powered cuz i dont have much room for both an amp and a sub..

I guess that Im gonna have to find a camera to send some pics to you guys

1. front doors 5 1/4 componets tweeters on downposts
2. rear doors 6 1/4 components tweeters on door
3. rear storage compartments 10s
all speakers and amp PHOENIX GOLD
4. xs 6600 6 way amp
I found some speaker pods on e-bay and used them to offset the depth of the speakers so they would fit the doors without bottoming out on door its self sound quility is exellent oh ya running a ROCKFORD FOSGATE mp3/wmp/cd head unit with a sirius unit

on my old base model pickup i just took a sawzall to the door panel and mounted some 5.5" speakers. worked great! my only problem is, now i have a leather package and door pockets in the runner! now it doesn't seem like a job for the sawzall....

please send pics!

Once it's light out I will go take a few pics of mine. I have 5 1/2" Infinity's in my door and it fits fine.

My 2nd gen had 6.5" Infinity References in the doors.

Previous owner moved the map pockets to the rear of the doors, and installed the speakers in the fronts via pods.

dont know if this is working or not but its 1:30 am and these are web cam all i have and spot light for lighting
1.rear door
2.front door could not get light inside enough to get tweeter in front downpost
3.rear door again
did the stuff myself so not exactily professional but most people that have seen them like them and LOVE the sound tryed real hard to get them set for best quility sound pods have a tilt to them so you can point the sound a little anyway now that i figured this out if you want in the next couple days during the day i can try to get better pictures just let me know.

I like the way those look Olharleyman, if you could get better pics that would be great. Looks like you made your own pods? what did you make them out of.

Also i was wondering if anyone has put tweeters is the black triangle thing where the mirrors mount to. I was thinking that would be a pretty good location.

You are welcome.
They sounded darn good too in there.

Better than the factory system currently in my FJ.

I've the woofers of my 3-way system in the front doors too.

I used some pods I redid to match colors and also redid the lower part of the doors:
