Any Help Putting 6x9's Speakers In A 1991 4RUNNER?
So basically, the title says it all im about to attempt to put 6x9's in the back of my 91 4runner and was wondering if they go in without a hitch or what kind of mods im looking at. Also I do carry alot is it possible to put them in keeping everything stock looking, by that I mean not having to cut the interior panels at all thanks so much.

yeah pop the cargo area side panels off. Its might take a while but you need them off.
Then remove the stock speaker. You might have to do a little cutting and/or make an adapter ring for your speakers.
But it IS possible. I have seen it done. If your not that handy you might just want to replace them with stock size speakers.

I am pretty handy and I have a full sheet metal shop, but I've been told that I can basically put 6.5's in the stock spot with a little trimming and to file down the plastic.
What I want to know though is what sounds better?

6x5's sound better in most cases nowadays as there are more applications for them and more research put into them, but neither one is a slouch at all, and 6x9's Might give you a littlem ore bass..

I would go with the 6.5s. I try to stay away from oval speakers. (or any non-circular speaker) You never see any thing but round speakers in pro-built comp setups. (SPL or SQL)

Thats true, So I think that I will go with the 6.5's now and I think they are 4t up front correct? But from what I have read on here they discontinued 4t's and now they are just 4's. If I am breaking any thread rules or anything let me know this is my first time on yotatech!

Yeah idk what 4ts are. But standard 4s will fit with a little dremel work. I think I have some aftermarket 4s in the front of mine and they fit like stock.

if you have an sr5 runner you have these super awesome enclosures for your 4" up front. if not you've a got 4" speaker with no box behind it which sounds quite tinny. Source out the better factory 4" encloseres if you can.
As for the rear I'd highly suggest 6.5's. Previous poster was correct about them getting more design research and development. 6x9's are for the rear deck in your 81 camaro to enjoy white snake.

Well I do have the sr5 so that means that I have a super awesome enclosure for my 4" upfront, and thanks for the help I will go with 6.5's in the back.
But there is nothing wrong with rocking out to a little white snake in my 91 4runner
So, can I ask a few more general questions and see what other help I can get from everyone?

All you need to know is at the 2nd gen 4runner lift guide.

bj spacers and cruiser coils or a spacer in the rear with a panhard drop bar and your set for suspension, add some longer shocks and your in heaven
cheap and you'll fit those 33's with no issues, although you can fit a 33x10.30 right now with no problems

Ok after you read that you should know what I'm talking about here.
I have the 1.5 ball joint spacers up front along with the (used) land cruiser coils in the back. (Just replacing the rear coils with ones from a LC)
I am also running 33x12.5 tires and they do rub but I just live with it. If I wanted to fix it I could hammer in the pinch welds and the rub would be gone. You could also cut the pinch welds off and weld them flush. The 33x10.5 should not rub even at stock height, but read the thread I believe there was further discussion about that.
I love my setup, the perfect size tire for the lift. If I ever go bigger it will be SAS.
If you do thAt your gonna want to get a panhard bar drop bracket from 4crawler. (search google, if you cant I will find it for you) Because when you lift the truck the panhard bar pulls the axle to the side a little bit so one tire will stick out of the fender well more than the other. Mine is like that right now and I just live with it but the ride is kinda weird because when the suspension goes up and down the back end moves side to side because of how far down the panhard bar is angled. You should also buy longer shocks when lifting with any setup. I have stock shocks on mine but it limits travel and is hell on the shocks.
Now with bigger tires your speedo will be off a bit and you will probably drop about 2mpg depending on how big you go. I dropped 2mpg and I'm doing 57-58 when my speedo says 55.
Most of this you can find in the lift thread though. If you have any other questions you can ask here, there, or shoot me a PM and I'll help you.

okay so my best bet if I dont want to get to extreme is going with some lc coils can I pick those up at toyota or maybe just go ahead and search craigslist and some bj spacers? but if I go with the first set up I dont need the panhard drop bar? or do I? What Am I looking at price wise, i am on a tight budget, it kinda sucks but then again being in heaven I might have to make that budget a little thinner. Oh and can I keep the stock gearing with 33x10.5. The speedo isnt a big deal mines off now already!
oh and nothing about the interior, not that its a big deal but some more PITA work for me to do just to be cheap

Whats your gearing? Auto or manual trans?
You SHOULD have panhard drop with any lift. About $50 iirc. But you dont HAVE to. Like I said I just deal with mine.
And the LC coils at a junkyard? Read some of that thread , I've heard that one side of the LC's coils is shorter than the other so you need 2 lefts or rights. Cant remember which.
