amp mounting locations...
hey guys.
so i just installed all my stereo equipment a few weeks ago in my 90' 4runner. here's what i'm running.
Alpine CDA-9883 HU
MB Quart 4" Components (Front)
Orion 5 1/4" Coax (Rear)
Precision Power 1000/1
Precision Power 600/4
10" Orion HP Series Sub
what i'm curious about is how everyone else has their amps mounted in their 4Runners. i sleep in the back of my truck when i'm camping, and i currently have them mounted to my seat backs. i replaced the original seat backs with 1/2" MDF so they're quite a bit sturdier, but it makes sleeping a pain in the ass, cause i have to cover them with a buncha pillows
here's some pics of them installed. let me know if anyone has some ideas.

I like to hide my toys so they are less likely to be stolen. I put my amp behind the pannels in the bed. I velcroed them to the wall and put the panels back on. I lined up the controls with the little door for east adjustments. It makes for a pretty sweet stealth install. If you want to show off your gear you could remove the panel and put a piece of mdf back there.

yeah where i live those would get jacked..hide those suckers!
you would never be able to tell i have 1.2kW of stereo goodness in my truck. Everything looks stock and boring except for my headunit.
subs are downfiring and in a stock looking box, amps are under the seats, components are in stock locations and tweeters aren't visible to onlookers.

well i'm not too worried about them getting stolen, and really even if they do it's not that much money. i work for Directed Electronics so i get the stuff STUPID cheap. plus i'm getting my viper alarm real soon and my window tint (thanks, tax return) so then if they can steal it more power to em'. my neighborhood is really safe, i left my windows down for 2 days with my digital camera and ipod lying on my seat and no one touched it.
anywho, i guess i could hide them behind the rear panels, the only other problem being access and sturdiness. i romp around pretty hard, i don't want them getting destroyed, plus they'll get a lot hotter back there.
i dunno, maybe i should just leave em' there.

I used to have that kenwood amp (it got stolen out of my first gen last year)..it used to overheat ALL the time in summer. Does yours do that too?
anyways..how about a false floor thats only a few inches deep.. throw a few pc fans in there with some intake/exhaust holes and it should be nice and cool as well as hidden.
Also, Throwing wrapping a seat cover or towel around the entire back seat would do the trick..cheap and effective.

I would put them in behind the rear speaker panels myself I agree out of site you stand to keep them a lot longer.
I personily put my 6 channel under the front passanger seat and added 4 fans to it to keep it chilly but after looking at it a bit more decided one of these days I am going to pull that rear cargo panel and hide it there with the fans.
Also I did my 10's into the cargo box's on that panel did an inside 3/4 mdf box with dynamat for .75 c.f.a. perside then built a front face panel that screws into the box so that I lost no cargo storage room in the back and still have the bump for double bass drums. If you like I can send you a picture of the way they are set up for you to get an idea of what it looks like.
Just my 2 cents hope it helps

your a thieves best friend. that makes it easier for them to steal everything. i installed a 5 channel cadence amp behind the rear passenger side panel in my 97 runner. it took a very minimal amount of cutting and a little bit of bracket making 101 but it worked out pretty well and you cant see a thing

i dont really have any pics of it other than when you remove the little access door you can see part of the amp. my camera died the day before i did the install so i went without any pictures. did you have a particular question or did you just want to see the set up?
