Hi im new to the forums and I have a few questions regarding installing a system in my 1990 toyota 4 runner. Im planning on purchasing a JL10w7, and getting a 700watt or so amplifier (preferably JL) to run it , now heres the questions:
- Will I need a new alternator to power the sub without losing battery power....ive heard that sometimes you might need a higher powered alternator to power some systems....but i dont know nearly anything about installing a new system, or about how things work electrically...so will i need one for a 500 watt- 800 watt sub woofer system?
- Also id like to know how the hell do you get to the speakers in the back of the 4runner... I have no idea how to remove those interior plastic panels.
- I have a good head unit, and i know how to replace all the satellite speakers...but is there anything else i might need to know before i get everything installed.....I deas are welcome
-please let me know of any inherent problems you might know about!
Thanks
-Sean

long stretch of wire (20 ft or more) for 700 watts (about 100amp fuse) and only 4 gauge ? Id do a minimum of 2 gauge. If it was my truck, it would be 1/0, so that I wouldnt have to add or replace wire in the future if/when you add more amps. Cheaper to do it once, than do it twice
So what do plan on having your stereo do ?
---Play beautiful accurate music,
---or are you trying to impress people with a Max dB pressure level reading for 1 sec. burps at a time ?
If you can start by answering that question, that will help you determine your needs. (immediate and down-the-road)
Your Stereo will only be as good as its weakest link. Theres a lot of links. Its all the little things that make the big difference.

Well ive had experience with other sub systems, just never bothered to learn about the technical stuff, ive always had someone else install it for me , but ive always wanted to have a lot more power, before I had a subwoofer with like 200-300 watts of power, and my friend has a JL10w7 and man it sounds great....and they arent too expensive either, so i was thinkin id try one of those in the 4runner.

Get your self some good power source helpers like optima batterys yellow or blue. And a bat cap. But I'd sugest Digital designs subs, the Rockford T1/T2s, Eclipse Aluminms, or Diamond Audio TDX subs. Over the w7. Thoes subs will destory the w7, JL in my opion is way over-rated.

then each BIG PLASTIC quarter panel is held on by FRICTION fasteners. remove the bolt holding seatbelts. then start with a corner and start pulling away...
but if i were you, just spend GREAT speakers for the FRONT doors or KICK PANELs. forget speakers behind the driver other than a subwoofer...

i agree with 808 i have one rock t1 15 in in my 87 runner and i have a 500watt amp and yes a new alt will be your best friend trust me the stock ones only put out 55 amps and my amplifter or my system takes up 50 of that and at idle the alt is only puting out around 25-30 amps my new one 120 bucks later now puts out 110 amps and 40 at idle but i use 4g from alt to front battery and 4g to the rear battery cause its only a charging wire to a feed wire for the amp as the rear battery does all the work and with one 15 t1 im hitting 153.7 i belive dbs and thats loud for only 300 watts nor and 500 watts peak so lets start and the first link... your alt get it rebuilt to handle your needs (the number on the fuses is how many watts it will make ex.. an amp with a 25 amp fues will only make 250 watts no more an amp like mine has 2x25 ==50 amps 500watts and so on) now the wire 4g is a good size up to 1000 watts with a sec. battery if you dont do and other batterys then 2 or 1/0 or 2/0 will have to do then your running it under the rig and say good bye to wheeling! next out back...batterys caps and capabatterys all help out a whole hell of alot then your amp and the biggest wire from amp to sub you can fit! i used to install car audio for a living and i do it for all my friends still if you have a questions feel free to pm me and ill help wow i just looked at the date im 3years to late lol i hope you got it working good though
