8'in Sub into 4Runner Center Console?
Howdy Oh Mighty Electronic Yotatech'
I'm working with what you see bellow... for a 94' 3rd gen. Pickup.
Now, my plan so far, is to build an (EXTREMELY) Shallow box into the Center console, and then put a 8in Subwoofer inside it. (firing towards driver/passenger side, not sure which)
I Really dig the 4runner console, so I'm doing my best to work with it for my box, and I do believe that if i cut a hole on either side, and have a properly ported box, it could provide the modicum of bass I want...
I'm already running:
1) Circa 2007-8 Pioneer DEH iPod Deck w/ 50Wx4.
2) Kicker Poly-Cone 4'in's in Dash mounts.
3) Alpine Component 6.5in's in the doors with 2'in Tweeters up high *like tacoma*
Currently... It sounds good to me, it just lacks that little bit of bass. Especially since when I turn the HPF off to get more, the lower freq. fuzzes the tweeters. I'm convinced that just a lil' bass will get the job done...
Suggestions / Roadblocks? Anything?

I just haven't seen this done, and really want to retain that stock look.

Thanks for looking, ya'll.

you shouldnt be getting any distortion to the tweeters if they are running through a crossover. The console will be a tight fit, and probably rattle ALOT. you may want to look into spraying or rolling on some sound deadener on the inside of it. i would look into the kicker line of subs, some of their 8's only require .33 cubic feet of air space. Have you figured out the usable airspace in the console? as that will help alot with picking a sub, and maximizing its sound.

updates / formations.
Hello All.
Seems like some mixed feelings in here about what I'm going to do.
Again, I'm not really looking for something that's LOUD or POWERFUL. I just want to fill out the sound completely in the cab. Considering it's only a single cab, I figure only 1 sub will work.
I had an 87' Mazda B2200 (why...why... would I buy that) with a single 10' Sony on 1000w. And it was WAY too much, but I was 18, and foolish.
So...
Here's the sub I'm thinking:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...TS-SW841D.aspx
And then put the amplifier under the seat (passenger)
Any suggestions on good low-wattage (400w or less) amplifiers? Low cost preferable?
I take my last finals in 2 weeks, and then I can start on this!

...Only Mazda-bashing because of the Constant and Incessant nature of the 2.2L in my truck to break down when I needed it most...
Imagine pushing your ex-girlfriend around in the drivers seat of the car, you at the rear (of the car, not her) to get the thing to bump start... to no avail... for an hour.
Feels-Bad-Man.

I agree, due to the fact that the sub is not going to be inclosed also point a sub at a wall aka a seat/person/door is going to muddle the signal. Also since the front speakers are firing backwards its going to muddle the signal even more. It will be loud and youll definetly feel it but there is no acoustic's to this setup. GENERALLY a subwoofer would be put in the rear, facing the rear to create a folded horn effect on the signal and give it the clarity and loudness you actually desire. Loud and Clear or loud and ...loud, your choice
Think about it like this
These firing back: V-----V
These firing to side: --->----
Rears firing like this: >------<

Have u looked at pioneer shallow tens or twelves for behind the seats? Their shallow series are made to go behind the seays in a single cab. Thats my .02 . A small dnough amp will make up for a size difference

UPDATE:
Test-Fitted the Center console today (now that I've finished school for the year), and it sits really nicely. I, again, am realizing that I have little work room for filling this thing, and am considering the rear-firing behind-the-seat route with the use of the center console as the amp housing (since it needs a frame)
Pics to come.
Thanks for the support everyone..
