'88 4runner radio output/input

upon removing my stock stereo i noticed a 2 familiar connectors next to the speaker in line port, 2 single pin sockets, one red one white. the only problem is i do not have the equipment to figure out whether this is an input or an output as it is not stated on the stereo or in the manual. any ideas?

Does the radio have an Aux input mode/button on the face? If so, those are likely the line in connections. Otherwise, they are likely line out connections for an external amplifier. For a quick check, you could pick up an RCA to phono jack adapter (I assume those are RCA jacks) and plug a headphone into the adapter and see if you hear anything. If so, that would be a line out, I think red=right, white=left.

stock stereo? probably an input for the tape player or cd player that sometimes accompanies the stereo in the second din slot.
