title says it all, i have kenwood sub that i want to install in the rear cargo panel on the right side (adj. to the very undersized stowage box in the 98)

is there enough usable volume for the sub? or should i build a box that fits in the cargo area ( i dont want to lose any cargo volume with this install.)

the depth is about 6 inches (dont actually have the sub right here right now, so ill update later on exact specs)

question is has anyone attempted this before? i know ill be cutting a gigantic hole in the side panel, or i could use the existing hole for the storage. anything i need to know about installing stuff in this area? is the panel particulary difficult to remove? and how would i go about removing it in the first place?

If the sub will fit (depth) I don't see why it wouldn't work. The behind the seat boxes you can get for reg. cag trucks are fairly small so volume shouldn't be an issue, but you may want to build an enclosure to put in there so it's sealed. good luck, and good idea.

 

I think JL audio makes an enclousre for it. I think it might be an 8" or 10"

I have a blue-grey Q-logic box that will fit a 96-98. $50 and its yours. I live and work sorta close to CPP, so we could meet somewhere in between.

I ran across 2 threads that showed this done with a 10 inch sub so search for it...i came across it searching "basslink" hope you have some luck...

btw...it looked really clean but my only concern is it would find a lot of things to rattle especially with all of that air being pushed through that many small holes. You really have to seal it tight and put lots of padding in.

I just bought the basslink and put it behind one of my seats so that the other can still fold down....gives me more bass than i could want...I recommend it if you feel like spending 200 dollars on a sub...(Crutchfield is having $100 dollar off sale right now on the basslink)

 

nah, no way im going with that. it just takes up too much room that i would actually use, at least the qlogic and JL boxes sit over the wheel well that is effectively wasted space.

from what ive read searching around ill have to seal up everything really really well, and thats ok. im willing to put the time in to do this right, cleanly, and most importantly, make it look like there isnt one there.

FYI:
You will loose bass response by putting it like you want to. The best way to place a sub is directed towards the read door. With every surface a bass signal bounces off of, you'll gain 3db. By putting it in the Q-Logic side panel you will just bounce the sound off of the other side then back onto the signal coming out of the sub. Your sound will take a big hit. I've seen that side cargo cabinet, it is a great idea but it is very thin and not very supportive. It is also reported to rattle a lot. (check Crutchfield's review of it)

i think its great, you just need to secure it properly!!! mine rattles only a tiny bit at full bass, and that is the panel not the box!

I did one in each panel and made my own box if you will i did dyna mat in the box then made a face with 3/4 mdf and they kick very very good with 300 watts a piece
