The box i am currently running is a pre-fabbed 14" cube and it just doesnt sound as good as i had hoped. I was curious to hear your input on my new box.
Do you think i should build a sealed box to the subs specs or a slot ported box to their specs?

I want good sound quality but also loud. Is this something you guys feel can be accomplished?

I listen to alot of rock but mainly rap

would a slot ported give me a lot of airnoise?

personally i like the sound of a sealed box better, but ported boxes i guess are alright. lol. sealed seems to give a more solid sound. i like solid umph over airy whumph. personal opinion

 

Ported enclosure is more efficient and you don't need as much wattage to push the sub. If you have a cheap sub, then a ported enclosure may sound a little muddy. If you go with a sealed enclosure, then get a better amp. You may have an 800 watt amp, but that is maybe 400 watts peak in 4ohms for a millisecond with a 50 watt RMS rating. You need to check out the RMS rating for the subs and hit that mark with your amp. Don't even look at peak wattage on an amp, it is just a figure that makes people think it is better than it really is. Go to Profile's website. They have good amps for reasonable prices.

Do you have the dual 4 or dual 2 model? Is that dual VCs at 4 ohms and DVCs at 2 ohms?
(As I think about it. I don't know why you have dual voice coils. You have a one channel amp and dual voice coils is for a left and right channel amplifier playing out of one subwoofer.

If you have the 4, then you are not pushing 800 watts, you are pushing 400 watts.

If you want to get more bass, then get a set (2) Pyle plw10bl or plw12bl. The 10's should go int a sealed box that is 24X18X12. They are 4 ohm drivers so if you run them in series, then you will drop the ohms down to 2 and run your amp at 800 watts and you won't be able to stand the pressure of the bass. My nephew just got 2 10's for $62 delivered, brand new.

Pyle is very good. Can't say anything about your amp or speaker because I have never heard of them or listened to them. I do have personal experience with Pyle.

I prefer sealed boxes, I have 2 kicker 15in CVRs and they are in a small ported box, they sounded like crap, so I put a piece of wood over the ports and now its sounds better. I am getting a bigger box for more airspace and its going to be sealed, It is going to be straight up rediculous bass!!

I would get a bigger sealed box, and it will make it sound better!

1989toy4wd - check the specs on the size box and port for optimum performance. You may have too small of a box for those subs to run a ported enclosure. They may also perform better in sealed enclosures as opposed to ported enclosures. I have a set of Pyles that are designed for ported enclosures and my nephew has a set of Pyles that are designed for sealed enclosures. If you have a strong amp that can control the large woofers, you will not have a muddy sound in a properly tuned box, be it ported or sealed, for your specific driver. Also, with a large 15" driver, you will have to have a cutoff of 80Hz and below to get the best sound quality out of it. It moves so much with the low notes, that it will miss on the higher (mid-bass) notes.
