'06 stereo system upgrade
I need some assistance. My buddy has a new '06 but is not happy with the stock stereo's sound. His wife would like to upgrade it for him for Christmas. I think he is really just looking for cleaner sound. I was wondering if anyone has just upgraded the speakers or if an amp would be required, or a new HU, amp, and speakers. She has a $200 budget, and I have a HU and possibly an amp she can have, I just do not know if it is necessary to replace everything.
Any help would be appreciated, TIA...Dean

Cleaner sound, just get higher quality speakers. if he wants MORE sound, than your going to want to do a small, maybe 4X100 amp or so, and run everything. He would be better off with a compmnent set, but if she is looking at a $200 budget....I would say go with just better speakers. Alpine or Inifnity.

Which stereo does he have OEM? The JBL or the deluxe? $200 really isnt a whole lot when talking stereo parts... she would probally be able to put in a set of ok speakers up front and thats about it... the JL Audio are my personal favortie... their 2-300 dollar speakers are usually in the 800-1200 room at the stereo shops... they are that good...

Indeed, 200 isnt much in terms of cost of systems...
The OEM system is also important to know. But for the most part speakers give the biggest bang for the buck right off the bat.
If she has it "professionally" done she needs to be VERY selective about who touches the truck. Ask the sales reps on the floor, who is the most anal retentive guy there. Ask the installers what other installer would they let touch their cars. Some of the guys doing "professional" installations do some of the most horrid, ghetto, hack jobs I've ever seen.
When I worked at CC as an installer I knew that I was only as good as my worst install and as such busted my butt on all cars that came into my bay! The only other guy there I'd have let touch my truck was my boss Dan. He was and still is THE alarm/remote start guy, and uber anal retentive.

hey if you want some cheep speakers go to ebay (but make sure the perosn has a good rating), you can get them for like half i got my rockford fosgate component speakers for 90 bucks, i would suggest those but component are harder to install but the are worth it, right know i have them runing without a amp and they still sound clean and they get real loud while maintaing a very clean not fuzzy sound
