Suggestion for YT - Product Reviews section

How about creating a forum for product reviews? If we posted reviews/opinions/experiences with products we've OWNED (i.e. have extensive first hand knowledge of), it would be a great way to cut down on some of the redundancy regarding tires/fog lights/bumpers/suspension/etc. It would also make searching for info much easier.

You'd probably want to give some thought to the organization of that forum - I don't think we'd want a new post for every review (otherwise there's goign to be 1000 threads about Revos and such), but rather 1 thread per product, and all the reviews for that product in that thread. Then if people had questions about a product, they could PM someone who's posted a review.

Thoughts?

Yea, but something more organized, with set rules for posting (rules that are enforced). I was thinking something structured more like a forum, where you go into the Reviews forum, and there's a section for suspension and drivetrain reviews, wheel and tire reviews, armor, etc. You would then go into the appropriate section and read the reviews on the product you are considering. Or, if you're just starting to think about new tires or whatever, you see what people like/dislike.

I think if it was setup more like a forum it would be easier to post in, more people would use it, and more importantly, it's a place people could go to for info. The search feature is nice, but it's soooo diluted at this point because every topic has been covered a zillion times in varying degrees. If someone comes in and does a seach for "hella 4000", they are probably going to get 1000 results. If there was a forum style section for reviews, it's easy to browse (rather than having to scroll down a single page and dig though things that have no interest to you, just to find out whether or not a particular product has been reviewed.

I think it's a great idea Jackson. Might save a few dupe threads in the process.

It does sound like a great idea Jackson, let me run it by Chris too.

The Gear section Cebby linked you to would be waaaaaaaaaay to much work for me to put up reviews every time someone sent one in.

One reason the Tech section has not been updated in eons, I simply do not have the time or energy right now.
This job I work is very taxing on me, and the last thing I want to do is sit down and code pages.
When I get back to Boeing, the Tech section will start to be updated again.

This forum as suggested would have to have a sticky reminding people to search first if a product has been reviewed or not, so posts are easier to search and find info.

Also what products are you looking at?
Toyota only related, and not off topic such as the Gear Review section contains?

I would suggest general products as well as Toyota specific. Maybe it's a sub-classification within the general topic of "Product Reviews". Like the difference between reviewing brake rotors versus an air compressor or a wideband O2 sensor.

The one thing that I think you'd have to be careful of is getting too much babble in a review thread. On one hand, it makes sense for other folks to pipe in with their experiences, but you don't want it to be an ongoing dialog.

Thanks jackson for the suggestion, and feedback from others in this thread too.

Just one forum to prevent clogging, and I think one section will work out fine & dandy for now.

I love that new forum, but of course nobody reads the rules before posting. I already have had a few people reply to mine with questions.
