The reason this happened is because immediately after 9/11 attacks terrorists started DDoS'ing multiple internet infrastructure servers.
This could have the possability of a terrorist group 'practicing' and they will treat it as such.
All I'm sayin. Or it could be some idiot who wants to mess with us, or a ring of identity thieves. Who knows.

denial of service attack on a server .....
imagine a server can handle 1000 people scanning it and asking for information (pages) to view and threads.....
what someone does is multiplies those requests by 10,000 and it basically maxes out the hardware specs on the server and it completely shuts down.
Imagine it as opening up a website and you kept getting a pop up ad, and they never stop and your computer gets slower as they open up until you have no choice but to unplug the computer or it crashes by itself.

I do believe I read before on the cybercrime page of the FBI that they do consider a hack on a server an act of terrorism, and they will treat that person who gets caught as a terrorist.
It costs extra money, man/woman power to fix attacks, and the downtime from lost revenue.
It is like robbing a store or stealing something.
When a server goes down, it is not making money.

To you it is not terrorism. You have nothing to do with YT at all toyota 1, except someone who is 'allowed' to view it's pages.
To the 'owners' it is a loss of finances (which could disrupt their business irreverseably).
To 'Corey and Fink' who have virtually sweat blood to get this site to where it is now, have hopes and dreams..... that turn to fear when someone attacks it with the sole purpose of killing the site.
You are entitled to your opinion, but you are also incorrect.

im not on there side or anything lol. i hate me some hackers!
loosing some money is not terrorism, if there is no violence involved. i didnt make up the word and meaning.
like i said people do worse things then hack a server and there not terrorists.
what about bernie madoff? he stole like 1billion dollars from hundreds of people and it wasnt considered terrorism?

I am sure they had plans for the weekend, but they were shot since they had to work on it.
I imagine there were many involved in getting the server back up and running, and not to mention lost sleep.
That is terror right there

No matter what it's called, I assume it's illegal and that you guys have some way of getting them.
To me, it's a minor inconvenience. To you Corey and the rest of the crew, it's a nightmare to have something like this happening.
Good luck and let the IT team know things are working very well (as far as posting and navigating).

You would have to ask the IT department that who all gave up their Friday nights with their families or friends to work on the server here, and well into Saturday morning before it came back up.
