Server up & down 6-9-2008

I have sent email to the server admins to let them know the server has been up and down this morning.

I have not heard back yet, I will keep you informed if I find out what the network traffic block is.

I was wondering what was going on. It happened last night too, around 10pm or so.

It was a network issue, I hope that it is ironed out now.

Nice new avator cor. It could also be that the blackout/brown outs that have been going on across the US today have something to do with it as well.

Thanks, I dig the av.
Have not heard of any power outages, but I have not turned into any news today at work.

Just another wet November in June type day here.

There were a bunch of storm related outages around the NE/upper midwest yesterday. Racine, Wis. was getting flooded out... another town was under water with its river 17' over flood stage... there is some video out there of houses floating away looking like a clump of broken match sticks.

I've noticed that reload, slow to post problem too... may be related to the recent server migration?

It maybe be at my end but I've noticed that the main forum page loads and then does a refresh on it's own. Not really a problem, just like a tic or a stutter!

Have not seen that problem, but I have had a major time trying to drill into here this morning.

I have not heard back yet on why this keeps happening.

My guess is the servers are getting hit hard from spammers.
I have noticed on a few other forums a lot of porn spam has been hitting them hard as of late.

Lately each morning when I try to get on here around 9 central time, the site doesn't load. Then this morning I got the dreaded database error until just a little bit ago.

We need an upgrade for the database server.
We have grown more thanks to the Viagra ads

No, really, they are going to be installing a new super conductor warp factor nine server for it soon I hope.

They know about it, it just takes time to get it online.

Two more bugs have hit.
1. Server hangs when you post, but your post actually goes through if you open up a new browser or tab.

2. Email server is off line.
You may not get notifications when you are subscribed to PMs or new postings.

3. New users who sign up go into lock down since they are not regged up since they do not get the reg letter.

It is an admins nightmare for sure.

That hanging server thing has been around off and on for a while, at least a month that I've noticed...
server was down again this am...
I wonder if we are under a concerted attack? LOL
Anybody hearing any "chatter" on other forums?

It's probably just the folks from Spamalot...

What I last heard was the server for the database was not big enough for this fine HUGE community.

Must be upgrading to a bigger/better system.

Spam will always be an issue though.
The ones that do make it through here (real humans) and the constant spambot scripts trying to drill in 24/7 to post spam of all kinds, but they get stopped by a plugin I installed yesteryear.

My friends gaming forum got hit hard by porno spam earlier in the week.
We got one too, but it was in moderation mode, so only I saw it, killed it before I left for work the other day.
Good thing, as if I had checked it at work, it would have been trouble.

Yep, email too.

Good news!
I will put up a blurb later on the homepage too.

YotaTech is moving to a beefy new RAID-10 MySQL server on Monday the 16th of June around 11 am PST.

RAID-10 is extremely quick, and we believe this will solve the database error pages the site has been experiencing.

The server will be down for one to two hours during the move.

I am not up on RAID stuff, but maybe someone can chime in here on how fast that works out for a forum such as this.

Yes, we are still seeing outages.
We will continue to see them until the move on the 16th.

Sorry for the frustration.
