Server Problems (3-9-10)

We are aware of the issues some are having with the server "resetting."

These are among many of the issues that our new server upgrade on Thursday is going to fix.

Please be patient with us as IB works on getting our new server setup.

Please also keep in mind there be up to an hour of interruption on Thursday while they migrate everything over to the new server and get us back up and running.

This is a newer, larger and faster dedicated server and should provide us with much better service.

Thanks,

Fink

It has done it to me at least 10 times in the past few hours while I've been modding - hasn't done it this much in a long time.

Not sure of the timing, Corey may know...

IB handles everything on here and seem to do a pretty good job with it.

Microsoft?

No idea on the ETA.
For the record, the forum has worked for me 100% flawless today.
Other times I have seen it hang for a bit, but not today.

We should be on the same box still, only the database I believe is going to a new box.
Two servers for one forum.

Server issues here today are from another DOS attack like we had last year.
Several sites were under attack earlier today.

There are a few posts on what a DOS attack is in the Announcement section by me in other server issue threads.

Basically a malware/virus writer has infected peoples personal computers to attack certain networks, and we are one of the targets.

The infected computers are zombies being commanded to attack us.
Not much we can really do as there are a lot of computer users who have no clue how to protect themselves from malware/viruses.

Install and run a decent Anti-Spyware/Malware software such as AVG or Norton AntiVirus.
I personally use Norton AntiVirus 2010 and it is awesome - gives you monthly reports of scans that it has run, threats it has found and what happened to them, etc...

FireFox is another way to help - I have never had any problems with FireFox, seems to block just about everything that I don't want to see.

It affected me this morning in the early hours for a few hours.
Very frustrating.

It is working better now though.

You would have to purchase paid or free software to test your PC for viruses or spyware, but it will not tell you if you are one of the attackers on the site here.

I personally run AVG Grisoft for antivirus and malware, and Webroot SpySweeper to stop spyware.

In case anyone was trying to get on this morning at 1:30 am PST, it was next to impossible.
The DOS attacks were tying up the server again.

something (2 things actually) that I noticed just now....

on threads I'm subscribed to, when I'm looking under NEW POSTS...it used to just have a little square thingy to denote that I was subscribed, but now it says "you are subscribed to this thread" right in the title.

2nd thing is, I see on a few threads (case in point is the "POST 3 WORDS" thread) that it says "49 posts deleted" as well as I notice yesterday when I was looking at some thread about the STAFF's Rides, I saw a post had been deleted and it said "deleted by COREY, reason this thread is for Staff's Rides"....I never saw that stuff before.

Otherwise, all is good......just thought those things were noticeably different.
