past that... fwiw, I KNOW that searching sucks - on ANY forum. Looking for pluses and minuses about 4-links is a nightmare, or "how much tire can I run in my 3rd gen".
My personal beef is basically with the stuff that's in the tech writeups.

Part of the search function issue is the Title that people give to the thread! The KEY words should be in the title and many times it is not. Searching titles only is great to start, but when no mre info is available, on to searching the text....

put this into >>> what you are searching for site:www.yotatech.com
best part is you can use all the standard search operators like "" for specific phrases or numerous other (find google search help for details) I have been starting to do it more often, and am looking into making a google powered YotaTech custom search engine as an add-in for members to firefox's list of searches

oh, and yeah, def tell them to search for stuff you know is in a write-up, that really pisses me off... when all you have to do is spend an hour or two to familiarize yourself with what is allready available there. Be sure to provide a link the the forum main start area, and to tech area though, with an explanantion of how to use it, which is really just click, click, read, click, read, click, read

well, that is possible too corey, but in the upper right hand corner of firefox there is the drop-down list of standard options, ebay, google, wikipedia, and w/e else is there, etc, you can put together something to add custom ones to this, once I figure out how this is done, I will make a thread about it, anyone on site with firefox should be able to add it to there browser. I'll look into how to integrate google with the site itself also, can't be too hard? (I know nothing about web design or forums though )

but..... http://www.google.com/searchcode.html may lead to what we could do here?

Corey... yes, you can create a link to Google and let the Google engine do the search.
You need to put a text box on the page in a form, set it up for GET, use one hidden field and the right name for the text input field.
For example:
Here it is in action:

Before everyone gets excited... The real issue with searching a vBulletin forum isn't that the engine isn't powerful (head to the bottom of the 2nd page at the link I posted above) it's that the engine is TOO powerful. It's doing literal searches on words within a post. You need to learn how to combine the words in order to get "natural language" type results.
If you're comfortable with using the extended syntax in Google to get AND/OR, wildcards, etc., then cool. But you _can_ do that stuff here already.
I dunno that using Google to parse YT is the answer - it may be, but I think that the additional power will just cause more issues.

yeah, that would be very handy too mark, and I never new it was that easy, the plugin would go directly in firefox though, so you wouldnt even have to have a yotatech page open to get to it
