new section proposal
i'd like to cast my vote for a new section, newbie section or newbie tech section, similar to the one on ttora.

i think if we had this, instead of telling them to SEARCH all the time, we could tell them to post in the newbie tech section. then non-newbies who want to answer will. and any posts there wont get flamed and bombarded with SEARCH commands.

He'll learn...
I'd have to agree with Localmotion. Less sections = better forum. Plus, did I say that they will learn?
My .02!
EDIT:
But then they'll already have posted in the wrong section. Now it's twice the bandwidth and server space? Also, for the newbie section to be effective people would have to know about it when they got here and not many forums have it for people to learn from.

IE: gather up all of the threads that a typical newbie would be interested in, and have them all in the same place.
This would be a lot of work for the mods though, I already appreciate all that they do, no sense in pushing our luck...LOL
Id have to agree with Mark too. Less sections = more organization, less bandwith, and less patroling.

i can see where the extra bandwidth and extra mod intervention would be a problem.
about the tech section, its already there for everyone, people just dont search. i think if they entered a noob section there might be a deckplate thread near the top, and they'd post there instead of making more threads. maybe thats just wishful thinking though. silver_truck made a GREAT Toyota FAQ a while back which is stickied, and it has everything from deckplate to lifts and wheel sizing, but people just dont look.

I wish we could have something like this...ready? OK...
Basically, a function where every thread could have a "vote delete" thing. Any member who is allowed by admins (a bunch of dailies who we can trust) could vote on a thread to delete it with a reason.
Then once the thread hits 5 or 10 votes per say (remember...only trusty members can vote) then the thread would be deleted and the member would be sent a PM with the reasons of all the "voters" of why it was deleted and a link to a thread with a lot of newbie info (like the one garret mentioned).
Sadly, this would require quite a bit of coding and I doubt is a possiblity at all. But if it could be made, it would help a lot of forums!
Dreams...

Sometimes I say "do a search" because I'll remember a specific thread or post that had a detailed answer but don't have the time to search for that particular thread myself.
Anyway, I dunno, I don't mind answering newbie questions if I know the answer, but I think in general they SHOULD be encouraged to use the search button because there is almost always a variety of opinions on the matter at hand anyway.

There was this one guy who posted the same question by making 5 new threads, and it was a simple question like "can you lift a 4th gen?" ... I posted with links to every thread I could find regarding 4th gen. lifts and he continued to post new threads asking the same question. Then Lance answered him, and the guy STILL ignored the answer and kept asking the same questions!

Even if you answer a newbie question, they would still benefit from doing a search to find even more info on it.
