Deleting threads/posts?
#2
It's currently under discussion. We have had a few snerts going through and decimating threads/sections by randomly deleting things, just to be a pain in the butt.
The staff are discussing how best to deal with that, but the current thinking is a having a time limit on editing, then the thread/post becomes a part of history.
That way when someone throws out a baseless allegation or other trash, they can rethink it for a period and after that it becomes a permanent part of their record.
With very few exceptions, there is no good reason to need to edit an old post or to delete a thread once it has replies. It's just a tool used by those who want to be a pain in butt to throw off the continuity of the forum.

Agreed and the Marketplace/Classifieds is one of those exceptions I mentioned. We are aware that at the very least, that section needs a much longer interval before lockdown, if at all.
The objective is not to limit legitimate editing, it's to defeat the drama llamas who post and delete, I am sure you have seen a few and the trouble makers who decide to delete threads they started just to be donkeys.

Good feedback. We are investigating solutions. I am sure you can see the problem. When somone deletes years worth of their threads, just be a pain, it makes a mess and removes information that others have a right to have access to.
But on the other hand, we fully realize that there are legit reasons to need to edit.
Bear with us. We will figure this out and arrive at a suitable solution. We have just recently run into a new breed of jackhole who only comes here to make trouble and we are identifying them and weeding them out as we can as well...

I figured some idiots were abusing this option.
I actually found it nice to use when going/looking back at something i posted that was no longer relevant...or catching a misspelled word and not having the "edited.." tag under my post. It was helpful to have for those that used it for legit purposes.
I was thinking...why not make it an option for contributing members? Might help bring in a tad bit more money for the forum.

I don't know if its feasible, but maybe make the original thread "delete-able" to the creator if its under a week old or under 5-6 posts. that way no one can delete a 3-page long thread except the mods. the ability to delete individual posts (not threads) is something that we definitely need, however, when we double post or just mess up completely.

Agreed (3 months later) I posted the other day that I agreed with someone just back from a recent trip to cool off land about something (not his banning reason) and then I saw some info he had posted elsewhere that told the true story of wehat he was saying and showed his true undertone, which you couldnt see from his original post, and I certainly no longer agreed with his crap...so I went to delete my post, and I couldn't, so I just edited it blank.
