custom titles

Would it be at all possible to have custom titles under our user names for those that are contributing members?

allen,

we thought about that feature and we know that the vast majority of you would not abuse the privilege (if it was user controlled), but as is the experience/history of this and other forums, theres always a group of knuckleheads that would use it to cause problems/drama.

if it was forum controlled, it would be too much of distraction and too much of a time suck to change these for all users.

thanks,
bob

Bob, the guys over on TTORA are much more rowdy-er than compared to the folks here and the titles don't seem too obscene, more PG-rated than anything else. I just think there ought to be some sort of perk for contributing members is all... it was just a thought.

Okay guys, I"ll bestow this thread with my brilliance.

I think we should have custom titles.
The dingleberries who would put something naughty there very well could do so now with a signature or even a post. Or locations. Will the sudden access to a new editable text field unleash a pandora's box of diabolical one liners? No.

The postivies (honest user's glee at another form of g-rated self-expression) will vastly outweigh the negatives (the goof who will put something stupid up there).

This is especialy true if such title freedom is only awarded to contributing members.

Keep in mind Bob, that there is a completely seperate and quite powerful censor system for the custom titles. You can set the length in characters and clamp down pretty tight with the censors and wildcards and head off 99% of the problems. Simply create a rule on the rules page for the other 1%.

Come up with a list of words and partial words you would rather not see, admin*, fuc*, etc. to begin with and once it's set, you can get away with only having to add to that list when someone gets extra creative.

It is in pow wow discussion.
I think it is cool if it did not get out of hand.
If so, we would have no choice but to shut it down.

And yes, I have seen some on other forums that could almost get your fired at work for just looking at them.

That is always our number one concern here.
