ever try steel rivets, i usually put them every 2 inches then the panel is tight and in place then i weld right on the rivet which leave enough material to melt to the panel and NOT burn through if done right then you can grind flat and it is still welded , if you have to butt weld and fill the holes your best idea would be to not work the holes side to side depending on how small the gap, anything more than a quarter is worth cutting a piece of steel and welding a nail to it and holding it on the back side of your gap and welding it in , thus making filling the hole easier

Well i weld for a living everyday all day and i also own an autobody shop and i can tell you first hand when you picked about the hardest thing to weld for a learning project! Secondly flux core welding is probably other than arc welding it the worst welding you could use.honestly if your gonna go through with it my suggestions will be a use a sleeve or another little strip as a backer or reinforcment if you will so that your dealing with alittle more meat! And turn that thing dow n flux core burns hot! And dirty! Youd be better off buying some wire and a tank of co2 for that badboy if it can. Also you can clamp a peice of copper or brass behind your gaps and it wont stick to it helping to fill holes. If you have a oxy acetaline setup buy a small torch tip and use a brazeing rod it would work better also cool your welds quickly after a weld it will help tp not warp the whole panel.hope these little tips help! good luck

OK I have a 66 Fairlane that needs quarters. I have been thinkng about flanged welding and body puddy filling the back side for apperance. Would the body filler work for a rust preventitive with a top coat of Trunk speckle paint??

Depends on the body filler most all soaks up water causing more problems.

When I need to I use the Fiberglass filler.

This is off the Top of my head things may have changed.
