The flatbed is about to be pulled off, lightly sanded and painted again with an industrial paint. I am also separating the bed and having it Line X'ed.

What is the overall diameter of your tires. They look proportional to the truck. Exceptional truck!

The tires are 32 10.50 15's
Next tire go around I think I might go up to 33's. There is not a huge difference between 32 and 33. At least not the TSL Swampers I have seen.

 

Thank you for the info. I think I am going to go with 16's for more future tire selections.
Just picked up fenders for the truck today. Bodywork starts! The box is toast and as I posted before flat bed is in the plans.

The bed is getting a facelift this week in addition to new carpet. I'll post up a few pics when I get it done.

Your build is absolutely amazing! My wife seems to be annoyed with the time I am spending studying it. How wide did you make the front end (near the headache rack) in comparison to the cab?

I can't recall exactly how wide I made it. I think it is the same width as the cab if I remember correctly.
I did just sand and add a fresh coat of paint to the flatbed and I will get some pics up of what it looks like.

Any time you flatbed a truck you loose alot of the uptravel capability of the rear tires. Especially if running anything bigger then a factory tire. You either have to raise the deck of the bed or notch it out and make fenderwells. Pros and cons to each method. With raising the deck of the bed, it ends up kinda high to load stuff in, if notching it out, then you loose that area to load flat stuff in.

 

What about the flex? Where does the problem lie here?

 

The flatbed if not high enough or notched out enough will not allow uptravel and the tires will hit the bed alot sooner then the bump stops will hit. This is not a problem with most street driven trucks. But it becomes an issue with anything that might see off-road. And in some cases downward droop travel can be affected as well since the other sides tire tilts as the other side goes down. But that's isn't as much of an issue as the up travel clearance.

 

Xtreme is correct. However, I have not had any flex issues. I wheel this rig pretty hard. Mostly hunting and bouncing around old logging roads. I do get into a rock or boulder field from time to time and I have not had any issue with flex.
I will say if I did a bit more extreme rock crawling I could see where I might have an issue in the rear but this truck was not built with that in mind.

I haven't had any issues with mine as well. It's just something to watch out for when converting to any type of flatbed. All-Pro's not including.

Full uptravel, it doesn't stuff any higher then this due to bump stop. If I were running 35's, I'd have issues.

 

Right on. Thanks for the help. One other question, if I may...where do you guys get the lights for the back end? This has been my main problem designing my flatbed. Also, what lights are required by law? Thanks again!

 

Laws vary by state, might wanna Google up your local DMV website. I don't know about toyospearo, but all mine are are 4" tractor trailer type lights and some 2" ones thrown in. The tractor trailer type clearance lights in the corners. The 4" lights you can get the push in grommet style or the screw in types. I have both on mine. The screw in ones are more secure and less prone to theft.
