Stainless syeel shackles?

I have a supply of stainless flatbar at work and was wondering if it could be used to make a set a rear shackles with? I have not seen anyone on here do this yet. I know stainless is harder and more brittle but i dont think they will crack and break. The metal wont cost me anything but my time to make them. I was thinking of using 2"x.250". Is this a good idea or a waste of time?

Drilling it will be more of a pain.
How thick are your stock shackles? If your gunna do a shackle lift, I'd also make sure your significantly thicker.

I used 1/4 inch with a 1" box tube brace in the center. They seem to be quite solid.
