Hello all!

My 73 fj40 needs a snorkel. Two issues come to mind:
1> Don't like the idea of (aparently) only one comercial vendor;ARB/Safari: I'm sure these are fine but options are always preferrable.
2> My cruiser has a LS1, TPI equiped chevy engine. Research has confirmed that several individuals have posted, home made, pvc/abs systems of varying quality, fit & finish.

With the above background:
1) Are there any other comercially available snorkel kits.
2) I am looking for good source for 3.5" tubing & fittings to suit the LS1 air flow requirements.
3) Have any of you completed a similar install on a TPI equiped V8? If so please provide background on performance and configuration.

my friend has the ARB snorkel on his 76. it's actually a really nice product. IIRC, inside the engine bay there is simply a flexible hose that runs from fender to intake. i'm sure you could either use the provided flex hose or somehow make it work on your LS1. any pics of the intake on the motor? not too familiar with them... might help others on here help you too.

As you can see, the engine is similat to the L98.
Making something work is a definite possability. Just don't have much to go on. The after market Camaro & Corvette (cars factory equip'd with similar engines) cold air kits vary dramatically: dual; single; most use 3.5 inch tubing; not all; none extend either the length or hieght of a 4x4 snorkle.

Your best bet would be to goto your local advanced or parts store and looking for "Mighty Flow" intake hose. I used that to get my snorkel to my airbox, up and out my fender. I've never seen what an ARB looks like on the inside but I dont see any reason why you cant mod it to fit. ARB's arent worth it to me. For $100 I built a snorkel on my truck that I think looks just as good with an ARB scoop on it.

 

dude make your own. I did and it works as well as the 400 dollar one from arb. set me back around $70

 

Make your own, but use Mandrel bent mild steel or aluminum. Better than PVC IMO while more expensive.

I would imagine 3" intake tubing would be plenty for an otherwise stock ls1
