Hey Robb, got the thickest stuff I could find here on the island. Bought it at Ace Hardware and then bought some 3/4" closed cell foam tape. Didn't sew anything together thought I'd try this prototype out. Works fairly well. I was hoping that the foam would be taller than the snaps but didn't really work out. Next time I may cut out the snap spots. Still cost almost nothing to put together.

I would assume they are using a chunk of exhaust pipe. That's what I figured I would use when I get around to making mine.

Once I get an extra set of doors I will be making a set of halfs. I think they're perfect for trail runs and beach days! Even though I very rarely go to the beach... lol

I first make the doors with painters tape to get a general idea of how much I was going to be removing. Then once you have your doors cut you can start to think about things like the latch, mock that up and get the door to work properly then close it all up.

That's a really good idea, I've seen people make fabric uppers that snap on, but re-using the metal that you cut out of the door to make the inserts, that's genius!

^^^used aluminum diamond plate from an old toolbox for the inner door panels and armrest. The toolbox latches opened the doors. Now I need to get some built for my 4runner before next summer!

Hi guys, I was asked about these in my build thread, I figured I should post them here...

I made these last spring.

My goal was to retain the functions of the original doors. Locking/unlocking/opening from inside and out. I also wanted a soft door and wanted to do something different from the buttons. So I used a #10 coil zipper and sewed a piece if piping to one side and made a channel around the door for it to ride in. then used 30 ga. clear vinyl and cordura for the door.

Ive never sewn a stitch in my life and after I got a quote for $600 and 8 to 10 weeks from a local canvas shop, I found a 1942 singer 201 for 60$ on CL, and figured it out.

The soft door rolls down and stores inside the door under a hinged door.

They don't rattle and surprisingly, they don't flap at highway speed.
