can i solid axle from a earlier toyota say like a 85 runner be swaped into a later 4 runner say like a 95 ?
i want to do a sas eventually ,and i personally would like to keep it all toyota ?
any one ever heard of some one using the stock solid axle instead of whatever other peopel are using ?

alot of people get the axle from a 85 and use that for the swap. just find the axle, rebuild it and then get a conversion kit and go to work.

almost all guys who sas a truck 86 and newer toyota use front solid axles off of an older solid axle toyota

'95 is the last year an early Toy axle is easily used for a SAS conversion. '96 and newer Tacos require a D44 from a Wagoneer due to the transfercase output.
If I had it to do again, I would not even consider using Toy axles, front or rear, on a hard used rig.
The money I've spent in R&P's (five sets of 5.29's), Lockers ( two Detroits and two spools), third member housings (three 4 cyl, two V6), Longs Super Birfs (four), stock inner axles (two of each side), knuckle rebuild kits (two), the labor in setting up third members over and over, would have long, long ago paid for narrowed D60's.

Have you tried any Long chromo front axles w/ the Longfields? You must be awful hard on the Toy for sure. I just can't make myself think that a 60 would be THAT much stronger w/ the weight comparison issues.

lol... a 60 is THAT much stronger than a 44, and a toy 8" axle is comparable to a 44.

Unless you have a lot of horse power, a D60 should live for a very very long time under a toy. These axles were desinged for the big 1 ton trucks, so they will lead a very happy life in our comparibly(sp) light trucks.

No experiential data to go by, I was just going by what Bobby Long has on his website in comparing a 60 to a Toy axle w/ his chromo products.

he was talking stock, you were talking upgraded. An aftermarket 35 spline D60 built all the way will be stronger than anything magical bobby long can do with his toy stuff just due to the mere dimensions of the axle shafts and joints.
but i still have a toy axle b/c i dont see me ever bashing on it that hard, but who knows. . . i havent even wheeled this thing yet since the swap
