Rusty '87 4 Runner rear quarter panel removal and fab
This thread is continued from another section where I realized it did not belong...

I removed all the rust I could without tearing apart the body mount just in front of the rear wheel well and then strengthened it with some 3/4'' square tubing.
I had previously taken a fitted piece of straight sheet metal to my friend at our local sheet metal shop along with an example piece of the truck body so that he could match the ridges that go along the length of the body. It cost me $60 for the 4x8 sheet and $40 for him to make the bends. They matched perfectly. This is what it looked like...

I primed the back side of the new panel and tacked it on, then cut my wheel well to fit with a 1'' overhang, and finally welded a 1/4'' steel rod along the length of the wheel well.. this added a massive amount of strength to the wheel well structure.

Then I worked from the top middle and down each side making each piece to fit against the last piece for the outer part of the wheel well.. Mad Max style!
This structure is about a thousand times stronger than stock.
