Red face Old SFA Smitty Built Winch bumper on Tacoma

I had a interesting discovery last weekend while putting a all metal 3 row radiator in my 2000 Tacoma.

It seems the front end fender bender was a little more involved then I was told.

While pulling the old radiator out I took off the plastic bumper cover to find no bumper. Wow good thing I didn`t have anyone back into me with there grocery getter at the store.

I had a old Smitty built Winch Bumper to install on someones truck but they decided to cancel . Wife said no.

So I am putting it on The Tacoma After remaking the front part of the frame Not a whole lot to work with!!

It might be ugly but it will work better than plastic.

It is interesting designing and building brackets as I go I should remember to take pictures.

i am not sure I no longer have one here to check.

Except for a few gussets and wiring the turn signals and some paint it is driveable. I might redesign some of the brackets.

To tell the truth it would have been easier to just build from scratch but I wanted to use this one rather then see it just rust away.

I had enough for one day I am looking forward to work to rest.

Its the tube steel winch bumper right? I think its only a few inches difference, buddy of mine had one on a 92. I dont think it would be a problem.

Theres a guy near my work that has one on a taco. He cut the top "hoops" off and just put a plate for a winch. Took out the hole plugs on the ends and welded them shut. It looks good.

Would i do it, no but an A for effort i suppose.

Talking

Being this is a work in progress I am quite happy so far.

I just need to cover the sides and make it look pretty because the Tacoma has more open space the the older trucks.

Still trying to figure out the whole photo bucket picture hosting thing.

Besides I am not really a picture taking person I took a 2000 mile trip and took two pictures both so bad as to be worthless.

I just never got used to the whole picture taking thing:jessica:

The thing is I really don`t ever take pictures.

When I want to take a picture the camera battery is discharged charge the battery but by then I forget why I wanted to take pictures of something.

Then I forget where the camera was sitting on the charger. Could be this multidimensional storage area.

Just another skill I need to add to my next live in girl friends list of skills

I just acquired an old smittybilt tube style bumper for a 92 pickup. I want to modify it to put on a winch but have had no luck finding anyone else that has done this with pics. Has anyone seen this done? Btw I'm a newb but I did try the search function.

You can`t see the oil spots because for oil changes the truck gets backed in only gets pulled in for welding .

easier to move the truck then the welder.
