Looks great. I'm used to building trailers with my grandpa reusing pieces from around. This is going to be nice.

Just discovering this build, don't know how I missed it! Looks like a lot of fun, and you're fab skills are like King Midas; everything you touch turns to figurative gold! I've said it before, but you're truck is my favorite 4Runner ever, and this trailer looks like an awesome addition!
Thanks for the kind words! The trailer should be a great addition to the 4Runner, I'm really looking forward to exploring new and longer trails without having the 4Runner loaded down with gear, excessive setup times and forgetting stuff.

is there a reason theres like $650 in tires and wheels on this trailer?

only thing i can see the use for...is spares on the trail....but then you have no spare for the trailer??

why not just put a set of used 35's on it?? save yourself like $400.

i mean, the MTR's are TOUGH no doubt, but do you need THAT tough of a tire on a trailer that won't ever see more than like 1000lbs?

i do agree though, it looks BadButt (can't cuss anymore or i get banned..lmfao)

Me too! But there are a few more things that have to be completed before I can start on the tent. I think I have most of the mounting system figured out, but I need to find or have a cover made to protect the tent.

The tires make a HUGE differance! I couldn't stand looking at the thing with the little tires on it. I feel a lot better about it now, the body and frame look more proportionate with the new tires.

You should see it in person!

Thanks! It has turned into more of a project than I thought, but when it's done it should be pretty cool. It's fun and challeging to design something from scratch, while still having certain guidelines and keeping the budget at a minimum. It should be awesome when it's done!

Thanks! It's fun recycling stuff that would go to the dump otherwise, I can hardly go to the junkyard because I get all kinds of crazy ideas and want to bring everything home with me!

I plan on bending up some tube fenders for it, with a small kick out on the lower front of the fender. That should keep any boulders or trees from getting locked in front of the tire.

For lights I'm going to reuse the LED tail lights that were on the old 4Runner.

Baller!!! J can't wait to see it with the fenders but do you think the lift is to tall for the location of the fenders. Like a huge body lift? I have been meaning to take a pic of my trailer that is half of a commanche with a area for storage in the tongue. Was intended for camping. Po had it built for him to sleep in(he was a plastic surgeron). That was back in the early 90s.

I knew it was only a matter of time before this came up, and you have very valid points, but believe it or not running the same tires and wheels as the truck will save me money and weight. Let me explain...

First, last spring I was snow wheeling and fell through a frozen shelf above a river. I lost a bead on one of the rear tires and got stuck BAD, I snapped my winch line four times and gave that same tire some serious love getting out. After getting the truck back to the shop I inspected the tire and found that there was NO 100% tears through the sidewall or tread, but there was some wear on the sidewall and inside the tire (and after closer inspection I'm sure it would be fine on the street too). There was also a couple very small cuts that were just deep enough to just reach the cords. If the truck was trailered to the trail it would be fine, but a couple years ago I was driving a friends truck at 65mph and I had a front 38" tire blow out, after that I don't mess with damaged tires. Anyways, the tire was not new and I had to order two tires to replace it, and the other other side became my spare.

At first I thought about just running some 33's on some cheap wheels, but then I needed to carry a spare for the trailer too. Three tires, three wheels and extra weight.

So I ordered one tire and two wheels, the new tire became my spare and the two used tires went on the trailer (the "damaged" tire will be fine with the light weight of the trailer). The next time I need to order tires I will only order three and one of the used tires will become my spare. That makes the cost of tires $0.00, and I will have three more trailer tires after I change tires on the truck. On top of that, I don't have to carry a spare for the trailer and since I plan on having leveling jacks on the trailer I could have up to three flats and still be able to get to a tire shop, and have a place to camp and sleep. Also, if I wanted I could rotate tires between the truck and trailer getting full life out of all of them.

It looks expensive, but in the long run it's cheaper, smarter and more interchangeable.

I totally agree with your reasoning on the Matching wheels tires for both the truck and trailer. Now if I could just get my wife to accept it

Thanks Cory! I'm thinking the fenders will have to be independent of the body, mounted to the frame.

I was gonna ask the same thing about the tires. It makes tons of sense now. Great thinking!

That's the plan, but it could change.

Something like this:
