Is there a reason you decided to go with a swing out tail gate instead of a fold down? I would think that it would be hard to keep it open if your on a hill and with a fold down you would get a work/cooking bench.

I went with the swing out because it's easier to get gear out of the back of the trailer, I can barley reach the front of the storage area the way it is. The door will have a latch/hold down that will hold it open when I'm at camp. The door also has a fold down table built into it, and the door will act as a wind block. A fold down tailgate would have been nice, if I would have designed the trailer different. The rear bumper blocked the tailgate from dropping all the way down (to get in the cargo area).

I also wanted to model the back of the trailer like my old Green 4Runner; I figured if I was using what was left of my first Toyota I might as well use a little bit of all my old Toyota's!

If it isnt all too much trouble cant we get an up close shot of those micky t's on the trailer? Would like a visual on the offset and overall look. Trailer looks fantastic. Alot of great ideas to into action.

I don't know what it would take to fab it up, but a tailgate like on a honda ridgeline would be cool. It opens like a regular tailgate and like on you're trailer. In this video it's in the first minute.

edit: I didn't know that you could just paste a youtube address and it would link the video up. Learn something new everyday.

That's really cool, but it's too late to change things around now and I'm guessing it would be a little complicated. If I ever build trailer #3 (or rebuild this one) I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the link!

wow i read all 16 pages of this and i got to say you are one talented welder/fabricator. I just got my first toyota so i can start building her up and on top of that my brother in law is going to teach me how to weld/fab a little.

Been very interested in this keep up the good work.

I'm sure it will take a couple trips to figure out what to take along, and how to pack it. That will be the fun part of the build!

Thanks! This trailer is without a doubt nicer than the truck it started as; I felt bad cutting that thing up years ago, but if I could have seen it now...

Thanks! The last trailer was a pop-up; it was cool, but a little big/wide for the places I wanted to take it. It was kind of time consuming to set up, and overkill for one or two people. There's times I wish I still had it, but I feel this trailer will be better suited for the camping I do.
