The only thing with that is you will not have the contour curve of the roof on the outside.

A few questions: So the flat bar pinches the top material between the bar and the metal edge of the cab or do you mount the screws through the fabric? I am thinking of using a little wider piece of flat bar, any reasons this would not work?? any tricks to conforming flat bar to the shape of the cab???

I dropped the guys at TPI an email regarding shipping the top to UK . Top is only $45 + shipping = $299 . Crazy shipping costs put this ideal cheap idea out of my reach !

The flat bar pinches the top against the weather striping. The top overlaps the small screws that holds the flat bar to the angle brackets. You can't hardly see them (bumps) under the vinyl looking down on the top. You could use a wider piece of flat bar. I bent the flat bar to the shape of the cab using the red top you see in the background as a bending form. You probably could heat the flat bar a little and bend it very easy.

If you used a carriage bolt you would have less of a sharp edge against the inside of the top. (using a carriage bolt to secure the angle pieces to the Long Flat bar.)

Going on the freeway with this is a BIG NO! Mine was thrashing all over the place and was forced to it take off....plus the stitching for the top where straps anchor to the footman loops ripped....thinking of possible bad build quality...anyone experienced this yet?
Btw, I was only traveling with speeds of 60 MPH....anything faster would have been worse.

Pretty typical of an inferior top and/or not having it secured properly. You also need a rear box secured in place the keep the top tight. If it's not kept tight/secure it will rip like that typically.
