I need info on the 4.3 conversion, 2nd gen

Ok I have found a Chevrolet 4.3 V6 complete with throttle body for $225. The ad says it needs work and I still have to go look at it. I have been giving this 4.3 conversion much thought over the last year. I need to know what all I would need to purchase so I know that I have the funding for this. I also would like to know what all fabbing is involved. Do I get to keep my automatic transmission, radiator, and who knows how much taller the 4.3 is over the 3.0? I think $225 is a good deal as long as the engine doesnt need a major overhaul. Blue

Check with Crash on this. He's done several of them. You can also check with Advanced Adaptor and NW Offroad as they both sell complete kits for this conversion. Downey also has complete kits for the 4.3 conversion.

Took a look at it and get the part number from the passenger side of the block. Not all 4.3 are same. An even fire version has a smooth idle. An odd fire version is a rougher balance. Most 4.3L have a two piece crank seal that causes oil to leak and could be a sever problem during prolonged hi RPMs. There is a four bolt version of the 4.3 that is tough and can perform with some easy mods.

You can get an adapter to fit from Toy manual to the 4.3L from Advanced Adapters. Your Toy fuel pump and lines will be ok. There is a bolt on engine mount adapter available. Downey Off-road also has info regarding what parts are need to perform a 4.3L swap.

Here's an article about someone who did the swap.

Here's a list of books regarding 4.3 performance, GMC fuel injection swapping, and general swapping info.

Toyota Truck & Land Cruiser by Moses Ludel
Chevy TPI Fuel Injection Swappers's Guide by John Baechtel

Good luck.
