I'm building a set of to boxes to go under my flat bed. I'm almost done with one. There made of dimand plate aluminum. There 14" wide 12" tall and 11" deep. I did not have any hinges and the hardware store did not have any aluminum ones so I made a set there not great but they work. I'm trying to decide weather or not to go through the effort to install actual tool box latches or something simpler. Here's some pics
I'll try to get some better ones with them on the truck.

 

In the bottom pic on the bottom right u can see the latch I was going to use. I got it off of a junky tool box. I had to repaint them.

 

Any one have a opinion on wether or not a tool box on each side under the bed and then one on the bed is TO many tool boxes might look a little funny on a small truck plus my FB is aluminum and my racks are aluminum and my brush guard so it might be too much aluminum.

 

Looks like a nice box... They are not that big so I would put on on each side... Can never have enough storage...

 

I knew someone was going to can never have enough storage but. My bed is a little over 6" so putting a big tool box takes up slot of the space. I probably will build one If I have enough material left over If I do it will have to be smaller then most or order more aluminum.

Thanks. The hinges were super easy to build just stuck three sections of pipe n a bolt laid them were I wanted hinge and tacked them in place made sure they opened because that's kind of important. Then welded them up.
I think I should have other ran the hinge the full length of the box or added one more section of pipe. Right now there is only one welded to the door itself.

 

yeah, that's a great idea. maybe do a piano-hinge style, and using a threaded rod. just some ideas.

I'm going to have to wait until my day off so I can mount it the right way. Not Jerry riged. I'm thinking of making one big tool box instead of another small one. I would definitely make another small one some day for the other side. but I
KNOW that it will look weird driving around with only a box on one side. I'm not sure how long it would be u till I could order material for the other one.

 

i think it should be long enough to fit at least a rifle, if not some fishing rods. kinda like the "ram box" on dodges. 4-5 feet, maybe? the tool box that i used to have was great for holding all sorts of stuff. it could fit a cooler, some beach chairs, my kite (stunt kite), or a weekend's worth of camping supplies.

oh, and if it's not too hard, locks would be another thing to add, just so you don't have to worry...

(just some suggestions, my ideas)

Yeah there pretty nice. Not ideal for any kind of real off road use but I figure I should be able to max out a 33" tire and not hit the box. Thanks for the input.
I think I'm going to redo the hinges though. There not straight.
