Fab guys help me out

Ok so i am far away from being any kind of fabber, but i was wondering how hard bobbing a bed would be for someone who has never touched a welder before or a grinder, cutting wheel, saw zall. Now i have done some milling and woodwork, so i get the idea but as far as sheet metal, i have never done any cutting of it or welding of it or any welding at all.

also while were at it, how hard is tube bending if you have access to a tube bender, or how hard is it to fab up a bumper, not a good one per se but just a decent front and rear bumber

all help is appreciated, thanks

As far as bobbing the bed would do, From what I have seen and read I dont think it would be much fab, Just gotta cut, and weld.
I've heard tho that you have to do like a bajillion tack welds instead of actually running a bead cause you run the risk of burning through.

And for the bumpers, I think a rear wouldnt be too hard, Its the front bumper that would be completely rediculous in my mind...

T Bone- A bed bob is not a hard project, but I would not have it be my first welding project. Start with a bumber and some sliders and move from there. Welding thin sheet metal takes alot of practice! Good luck.

I've done both and if you can use a tape measure you can bob a bed. If you don't know anything about welding just make sure your welder is set up correcly for the thickness of metal you are welding. Usually the Welder will tell you exactly how to set it based on your metal thickness and wire thickness. Practice for an hour or so on some scrap.

As for the tube bending, that is much harder. you almost have to learn by instincts on tube bending because the benders create a radius so you know where the bend willl end based on where you start it. You'll go through a lot of tube until you learn this. I hope this makes sense.

yea, it all makes sense, ok so a bed bob isnt to bad, lets say i got a guy who can do some welding for me, and he does alot of it, should be pretty easy right?

and i think i may do some sliders or rear bumper, because i will just use square tube for that

and as far as the front bumper, its really just gonna be a brush guard i am making, i already have one of those old style bull bars, and i was just gonna weld sides off of it

Yep. Most of the work is in the prep. You have to clean all the paint and primer where you will be welding. The welding part is a bit time consuming though because you basically have to make tons of little tac welds intil you fill all the holes.
