My truck is taking a huge turn. I found a deal today to good to pass up. The truck below I picked up for $350.00. I don't think the frame has any rust on it except some surface rust in the front. I going to take both truck to make one good truck. I going to fix the bed on the below pictured truck and put my stepside bed up for sale for $100
Check out the cool hood.

I thought I was getting the above truck. But some unexpected bills popped up so I'm going to have to pass on it. So back to welding up my rusted frame. Oh well, practice my welding some more.

Did some more work on the bed today. I got it mounted using some L shaped brackets. Welded those to the bed. Still gotta box in the inside of the bed using some square tubing I'm recycling off an old ladder rack. Basically I'm trying to fix a few things before I move it over to the new house and the Huge Garage.
I've been working under a carport and laying in gravel. I can't wait to finally have a garage and be able to use a creeper under the truck.
Also I removed the rear brake setup. I'm not sure what its called but I guess it puts the brakes on if you the truck tilts too much or something like that. Just going to run the brake lines straight to the rear axle and bypass the piece bolted to the frame rail. I'm doing this for one because I gotta replace the brake line anyway. When I was welding I accidentally arked the brake line and put a hole in it.

Hidden tool box in the bed of my 79 toyota with a custom chevy stepside.
I've already had to do a bunch of mods on this bed to make it fit my toyota. I also cut out the rear brace that holds the spare tire. I'm going to reinstall a brace but at the very back of the frame. So I decided I'll build a tool box that'll be in place of the spare tire, and will build an access door in the bed. The red is where the tool box will be at.

The picture you found on yahoo, has chevy 63's on it. was wondering since you were already putting a bunch of work into the frame, why you didn't either extend it to match the length of the bed, and switch to 63's. in the rear, running 63's in the rear using the original front spring location would have extended your driveline 8-10 inches to match the center of the wheelwell. just a though don't know if you wanted the truck that length or not.

A little update. I just moved so haven't had access to a computer. Heres where I'm at now.
Added the square tube to support the rear and allow access to the tool box.
Heres the bed flipped upside down. I used square tubing from a ladder rack I picked up to build the frame. Also you can see the toolbox.
The frame work isn't finished yet. I still have to add a few more supports and I'm going to move the frame work on the outside of the bed to the inside.

Some updated pics. The bed is just sitting in place and not bolted down. So if it looks a little off its just the way its sittin on there. I will add the mounting plates this weekend.
Heres a pic my wife snapped of me as I was testing my welds in the bed.

Heres a little update. Got the bed mounted permanently today. Also did the $50 roll on paint job on the fender wells. I think it came out well. Still gotta fix a few dents. I just wanted to see how it'd look. Heres the results.

I changed my mind on the color. Decided to go white with it. Only got the first coat on it right now.
