Custom front winch bumper and rear
Hi yotatechers,
The Spanish 4Runner forum people have been working in a group build of winchbars and rear bumpers.
Finally, we have the cardboard templates of the front bumper. It's almost a copy of an ARB but TJMised, without hoop.
In Spain ARB winchbars are very very expensive, so we decided to build our own and spend less in two bumpers that in an ARB, designing it to be easy and cheap to build (Cuts and bends).
Soon we will have the steel cut with high definition plasma, I think they can cut 7 sheets of metal in one pass.
Let's see some pics:
I'll post some more when we've the metal prepared.

the template looks cool! very TJM T17ish. are you going to make each bumper out of one sheet? or is each plane going to be a separate piece?
is the skid plate going to be removable or is it just part of the bumper?
can't wait to see the metal version

Thanks all, I'm glad this is the first time I can show you something...
I don't know exactly how is it done, my friend and his bro who have designed it did it thinking in being simple to fab (Speacially the plasma cuttings) and also to be legalizable here, they can have hoops that stick out farther than the bumper itself, they cannot have cutting edges, must have rounded edges, etc.
I think tomorrow they'd have the drawings in CAD to take them to the plasma cutters.
I'd post as soon as I have something new.
Next is my custom snorkel, will look good I hope.

Ops sorry, the skidplate is a separate piece.
You can notice it don't being straight as yours, the 3.0 Turbo diesel 4Runner has bigger radiator, hangs below the front frame rail:

that looks awesome david...nice work! question: do you have any pics of what youre mocking up bracket wise? or has that part not been figured out yet?
Is this a suitable way of fabbing up a rough template for a bumper? I'm hopefully going to be getting one built this summer, and thought of this route to give to the fabricator..and he can cut & weld the pieces together.
keep us posted on the progress..and dont forget..lots of pics!

I think the bumper is bolted directly to the frame, no brackets on it, if you name bracket a piece bolted to the frame and where the bumper is bolted to.
Yes, we're fabbing a rear one also, will begin next week with the cardboard templates...
d0ubledown, I think its a good way to imagine how will the bumper look like or what pieces of metal do you need to fab it up.
I'm still trying to decide if adding a hoop in the center (Simillar to an ARB Sahara Bar) or leave if T17-like...
A hoop will protect a bit more the grill, and maybe it's easier to put a pair of lights in it, but a levelled bumper will be nice for attaching a hi-lift...
I think I'll mount it without, then I can imagine or simulate the hoop and see how it performs.

Nope... You're used to have big places to park, here space to park isn't very big in the towns and cities...
Anyways I think the rear tire carrier will be doable, but in my case, I won't install it at the moment, also, it's easier to do legal a bumper without tire carrier.
