Custom Front Bumper...
Started my first project on my p/u. Still working on the side details and possibly a brush guard. Sorry about the phone pics. No winch plans, b/c can't afford one, but planning on running two 140 light forces centered. Appreciate any comments and ideas to make it "the best."

Yeah in Fairbanks lights over a winch. In the middle of winter there is only a few hours of daylight and lights help see truck killers...moose.
Finally got it mounted and the blinkers cut in. Will get pics up tomorrow.

BEEFY bumper..now THATS a strong lookin bumper....built to withstand a moose....gotta be strong..haha..now get some tubing on it to protect the grille, the headlights..and then you'll probably want some tubing everywhere..and before you know it you'll have a full exo..HAHAHA!..

Looks good. Nice shape without getting too bulky.
I would agree, some hood/light protection would help in a close encounter with a moose.
It may be the picture but it looks a little wide. I would bet that it wouldn't take much th cut off a couple of inches on each side and re-plate the ends.

No reason to drive around with a winch all the time.
I WOULD however recommend installing a receiver mount - mine comes in VERY handy. Then you can install a winch later if you want to.
GREAT choice on the Lightforce lights - I will never go back to glass lenses ever again. I got mine from

One of my biggest concerns was weight. It's only 1/8" sheet which is probably too light. I may finish up the design then take it apart for templates of something thicker. . .
It sticks out 6" from the grill for mounting room for the lights. The approach angle is decreased b/c of this. I am considering keeping the shape but retracting it for a minimal approach. Then mount some lights on the roof or something. . .
I went camping this weekend so I didn't work on it late in the week. I'll stay after work tomorrow and get some visual progress for ya.

.125" is good. I have dented mine, but nothing major - and it took A LOT. I haven't damaged the .188" (3/16), but that adds a lot of weight. One thing you could do to improve approach angle is to slant that vertical face back a bit - of course, that may mean pushing the moose UNDER the vehicle instead of over.

looks like you have a good start, a solid base for makeing some tube additions. i think the 1/8 will be fine unless your going to be smashing rocks every weekend. i would recomend a 2" receiver cut into the middle of the bumper, its a usefull addition to any bumper with multiple uses.
