Hey guys, for those that think a gas tank relocation isn't worth it, check out these pics:

I fixed the upper link yesterday, and wheeled it on some hard trails to see if it was good. I didn't sleeve it or put any gussets on it, because after seeing how little metal was holding it together from the factory, it's way stronger than it was now just with some good solid beads of weld on it.

How did you weld it w/o melting the bushing out?

i have a question on axle placement......

i am running 38x15.50's, OME 860's, 2.5" panhard drop, and stock upper and lower links on a 94 4runner

when the truck is sitting level the tires look way too close to the front side of the wheelwells and look like they will rub like crazy, but when i drive or flex they rub on the rear bumper. i removed the bumper and the tires fit perfectly in the wheelwells with alittle rubbing at full flex.

if i extend the lower links and center the tires like i want to, it seems that the tires will rub and it will not be able to flex at all. or will extending both links fit this. i do have new heim upper links waiting install

I've decided what I'm going to to for my rear lower links after wheeling this weekend at the SE4RJ. I saw a jeep that used 2" 7/16" thick tubing bent at roughly a 60-70 degree angle, welded together that created a downward L towards the axle. Talk about clearance. It was amazing! I haven't looked yet, but I'm going to try to mount them to the outside of the frame instead of the inside for more stability, but if not, they'll be just inside of the frame, longer than stock, and there won't be any snag spots on the frame this way.

One of the guys on the trip took the pictures of the jeep that had them, so as soon as he posts the pics on the SE4RJ pics thread, I'll post them over here to show what I'm talking about!

This might be a dumb question but is it bad to have my rear lower control arms bent upwards? Is it messing with the alignment of my axle or anything?

Not a dumb question, but join the club. If you've wheeled on any rocks, you've bent your lower control arms. I got hung up in a very bad place on Guardrail at Tellico this weekend, and I almost wasn't able to go forward, because I was resting on my frame directly in front of my lower control arm frame location. Without it, I would have walked right over the rock face, but instead I had to use my highlift jack to raise the frame and let the jack fall as I moved forward.

But, to answer your question, being bent is normal if you have wheeled it. Does it affect the angle of your drivetrain: yes ever so slightly, unless they are majorily bent. Being a 1/4" off isn't going to hurt anything. I have had 3/16" angle iron on mine, and they are still bent, so I'm going to be using .5" DOM when I make my lower control arms, plus I'm going to double them up, because the curve adds a lot of undue stress on the link when backing up.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Chris.

I guess I should add some angle iron to mine also. Should I just hammer the arms back while still bolted on then add the reinforcement?

I wouldn't hammer it, but I'd use a bender to bend it back, then I'd go with 1" 1/4" angle iron instead of 3/16" thick?
