Built a rear bumper for the 4runner. *PICS*

So after driving my 4runner around for a little over a year I finally got around to trying to build a bumper.

I started with a length of 3x3x3/16

After I had that tacked on I started work on the sides.

Happy with this I started making it with metal.
I used 3 1/2 x 1/8 band anbout 30 inches long.

Next some trim.

Next I unbolted the bumper and welded all the seams and mounts solid and gave it a few coats of paint.

I wanted the bumper to be strong but not be to heavy. The bumper bolts to the frame in six places.

Ok im done for now. I still want to add two mounts for shackles and a rear hitch tire carrier. Let me know what you think or any suggestions.

Thanx

Damn thats good. I need to learn how to weld. I need to make one for mine. The not so factory rear step bumper on mine looks like hell with the flatbed. Not to mention the fact its a boat anchor/lawn dart off-road.

Looks nice.

Only thing I would have done different is stitch weld more on the inside and then grind down the seal weld on the outside for bling.

One of my oustanding projects is to get some bumpers on my Tundra...maybe in 2010.

Looks really nice! I'd recommend bracing the receiver from the back side if your planning to use it for a tire carrier. Maybe something like these.

New Pics as requested

First off thanx for the great feedback on the the bumper!! This was my frist post.

Here are some pics of the the rear. Shes a little dirty I took my dog up Mt Prevost yesterday. I think it looks better all muddy anyway!

And how it mounts to the frame. I cut up and used the old hidden hitch mounts.

And welded a tab to the frame here to bolt the sides. There is a nut welded to the inside if the 1 1/2 x 1 1/2. The nut did not fall off

Hope this helps. Thanx for the feedback.
