i dont get it... whats the point of bobbing? those are all sweet rigs, and great welding/surfacing jobs, but i think bobs look dumb in general. i really dont get what the advantage is. someone please elighten me.

take off. You can take off on a steeper incline without scraping your bed is not there. Places like moab and the rubicon where there are steep slabs, you don't want to get hung up on that extra 12-14"s of bed. It mean the difference in getting over the obstacle or not. In my old truck in the snow, I hit a couple of steep hills and got hung up because i couldn't make it up but the bed dug in and wedged me in. Bobbed bed would have prevented that. It's really advantageous for rock crawling, beyond that. Not much. its all about maximizing approach angle.

ugly/dumb vs. function, i'll take function, and besides, ugly is BA.

Anything that extends beyond the rear leaf spring mount reduces your departure angle. If you wheel long enough this will become painfully obvious. I will spare you the photo's of my previous bed and what happens to the excess metal hanging out back there.

You can't really see it in the pick but 1 fender, both doors and both bedsides are smashed up already. I'm prepping it now for its 3rd body and will be making some changes too.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

toyminator - thats crazy clean! Looks like it came stock that way.

I'm looking at bobbing my bed too, knock off probably about 15". The other weekend I was getting hung up on the ass end of the bed even on simple trails, it was pretty discouraging. Granted the truck is a long bed and stock suspension....still...

....sometimes i miss the approach/departure angles of my wrangler

This got me thinking...
Cause I do not have the fab skills to do this myself.

Gonna stop by a fab shop thats on the way to work and see if they can/will do it

If you can do the cutting, just have them do the welding...

They SHOULD let you do something like that
