bike rack

My rear window stopped working so I had to come up with a solution for caring my bike. This is just a temp job; I plan to have it for three bikes. I will also have it so that it will fold up. I just can't justify the cost of a Yakima rack for three bikes. I didn't know how to post the photo so here's the link

I like it.

Sportsworks has a lock system you use instead of the hitch pin...with a cable for the bikes connecting to it. Wouldn't be fool-proof, more a deterrent. Guess any cable or cable u-lock combo would work, the rack would be too heavy to take the whole enchilada anyway.

How are you holding the bikes down? Letting ride as is or velcro around the rear wheel or something else? Is the rear trough adjustable to fit more than one wheelbase?

I right now I will use a short ajustable strap on the front wheel. My plan is to have an arm that will clamp on the top of the front wheel with a spring loaded pin and lock. The rear trough does slide.

Nice man! I've got the same frame as you... I'll have access to a welder in less than 2 months, so I'll try to rig up something just like that. It's a pain in the arse trying to haul a Bullitt around. Standard bike carriers that grab the top tube don't work on it, as I found out... That would be sweet for shuttle runs.

da bigg wigg,

lots of good riding all year round. The north shore is great, but over crowded. There are a number of other places to ride.

Oh, I know dude. You pretty much can't drive down any backroad back home without coming across some trail in progress. I love it! Moving to Calgary was horrendous for my riding. I went from sending pretty much everyday to once a week if i was lucky. What did materials for that cost? Oh, and here's a pic of my bullit for good measure

not bad...seats way too big though..try an SDG. I had the sport works until a tree took it out..sportworks was bought out by Thule whom now make a pretty slick one for a couple bills. My DHR sure looks good in it. we put two bike inside,,window rolled down, front tires hanging out...with 3 bikes on the Thule-hitch rack....that's how we shuttle Laguna and santa barbara. The Bike company-lake forest!

Jrock,

When I had my other runner we did that but it was blowing oil that would come into the truck. As for the seat, it's long but not too wide. I have a couch at home that I use when I go to Whistler. As for the material about $30.00. A little over a hun for 3 bikes.

Couch!

That cost is way better than the cost of the Sportworks...which I have too.

With 3 racks we had some problem with dragging mostly in driveways but after the hitch was raised a few inches we've had no problem since. It's a '96 with no lift, though. A consideration as you add to yours, if you're low enough to have to worry about it you could incorporate a step or two to add height.

You'll have to keep updating.
