hey guys so im really new to the site and to 4x4's in general. althought ive owned several other trucks this is my first 4wheel drive. today i removed the stock front bumper and unbolted it front the mounting brackets, im half way done.. or so on a custom front tube bumper so far so good and alot easier than i was thinking. a second thinner tube will be added a few inches below aswell as some trailer turn signals and some plating to fill in the space between tubes. i'll have photos very shortly!

 

when i first got the stocker off. re using the factory mounts


welded the maint tube to the factory mounts not a bad start.





the holes are gonna be filled in later

 

todays update. got the lower section made up, still needs some re-enforecements, made it a bit narrower. also got some chrome tow hooks for free rated at 10 000pounds.



smoothed the welds abit and removed the top of the factory mount for a cleaner look





gonna get my plate cut tomorow hopefully. then install turn signals, tow hooks and licence plate bracket.

should i raise the bumper to be more level with the bottom of the grill?

it's a toyota truck/pickup/hilux. Nice start of a bumper!

depending on the place you go (at least here in the states) it's referred to as a truck pickup or hilux. Hilux was the JDM name as well as in many other markets but when they imported it here they didn't have an official name for it so it's just pickup or truck.

 

and I think it would look a lot better if you made that gap smaller

Looks great man. Very tough looking. If it were me, I'd cut some round holes on each side of the license plate and put in some aftermarket lights so they were flush with the bumper. I think that'd look pretty good.

 

yeah i will be doing somehting like that, these were just readily availible and cheap.. but for some reason after i connected them, using spades. they function normally for the 4 ways. but when i actually use the turn signal lever they click fast as if they were burnt, yet they work. does anyone know why its doing that ?

 

hahaha i have those exact same blinkers and theyre actually marker lights the bulbs are a lower wattage bulb so to the turn signal capacitors they appear to be burnt out regular bulbs if you get what Im saying

 

ohhh gotcha. but these were initially bought as replacement lights for our snowmobile trailer. would i be able to get a bigger bulb for these or am i better off going with the other lights later on

 

measure the resistance of the original turn signal bulb, then measure the resistance of this new one and subtract. Get a couple resistors of that value and wire em in. Problem fixed.

 

im sure thats fairly easy but it sounded complicated haha, ill just wait till my dads around to give me a hand

 

that works too. I personally prefer my blinkers to be on crack so I havent fixed mine
