85 sr5 CUP HOLDER mod!!!!

so i decided to finally do something about the weak-ass excuse for a 'cup holder' that resides in my sr5 center console..(after spilling a soda all over the place)

this is basically my first write-up so gimme a break..
i included the measurements for anyone who wants to fab up one..

anyways heres the goods:
haggard console

template and tools for the task.. minus some files and a hacksaw

template in place with measurements.

template next to prototype. (the hole has a diameter of 2 5/8")

engineered to fit snugly in place with no screws/glue/hope

finished product

ACTION SHOT!

My 85 console doesn't have that large of a opening up front. But mine was missing the armrest, so I ended up cutting a block of MDF that is a press fit into the top. Got two cup in mine

Yours is bling though, I should fab up something out of steel and paint it.

your saying that yours didnt have a lid? so you got two holders where all the junk would go? sheeeit.. i think im gonna do that and then have 3!

i was gonna do it in steel but i have a couple switch-plates and beauty plates in my interior that are alum.. i love the look of alum sanded in one direction..

anybody with CAD skills or a cnc? we gotta improve on this idea.. cupholders are a necessity !!

And you forgot no heat, sr5. It has a whole 2nd level to the console. It's as tall as the rear heat console, but it's all cargo space and no cupholder.

that looks great! oh! i know the one that you guys are talking about! my gf has one in her stock 91! i was trippin when i saw the dual pockets.. well, she was impressed by the 'cup-plate' i made and she wants one similar...for her b-day! (talk about killing two birds with one stone..) the tray area is pretty shallow so im gonna have to get creative.. expect a prototype and write up soon .. shes at work so i cant take measurements.. =[
