Talking 83 1st gen chassis swap into 47 Willys?!?!

Hello everyone, first I want to admit that I have been lurking this site for years and have never started a thread. I love Toyota's and I love this site and its community. My first car that I drove in high school was an 89 4x4 22RE with a 5 speed that I still own.

My crazy idea is to take this 83 2wd that I have sitting around the yard for a few years now and turn it into 4x4. The twist is I also have a 47 Willys body, fenders, hood, and grill. I want to put the Jeep body on the 83 chassis. I want everything to be Toyota except the body. A lot of my friends are Jeep guys and this will really tick them off which is where some of my motivation comes from ^_^ I'm always telling them they wouldn't have so many problems if they just had Toyota axles or transmission etc, etc. I know its kind of sacrilegious for both sides though. I hope this doesn't offend anyone.

I have a 83 2wd 22r with an auto trans to work with, I have a transmission and t-case out of a 87 4x4 2nd gen, and the Jeep body so far. I have a buddy coming over tomorrow to help me take the 83 apart. I think the 22r will bolt right up to the 87 bell housing I just don't know about the input shaft. All I need to fine is some good Toyota axles on the cheap hopefully and another T-case because two is always better then one

Please let me know how you guys feel about this. Good or bad

The 83 2wd doner truck.

The 47 Willys body.

The 87 transmission and T-case

The 22r still in the 83

The blown up auto shifter and dash.

Bit of fab work, but no biggie because there's no electronics to mess with.

Consider keeping the 22R Ac compressor for onboard Air.

More rain

More rain, I think this is the most rain we have got in 10 years. I guess this well have to wait until this weekend to get started...

Lons81: Thanks man I hope it is too I love projects like this. I like your 81, do you still have her?

Millball: That's a really good idea for the on board air! Do you know anyone that has done that mod before? I want to do that now, have you seen the mini truck guys that turn the whole chassis into an air tank?

Don't really have a build thread, but there's several posts about my onboard air on this page::::https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f5/w...l#post52181607

My setup is still working well.

Did you ever build this? I have a 83 2wd Toyota pickup also that I’m going to be swapping to 4x4 and I have a 1950 willys pickup that I’m going to swap the body onto my Toyota frame.
