4Hummer's Snorkel (Pic Heavy)

I've been Getting Email after email and PM after PM in regards to my Snorkel Build. My website is no longer online (Lack of time) So all my previous images are gone.

Heres my Updated snorkel Build: Snorkel Ala Cheap.

Parts Needed:
2.5" Flexible Shop Vac Hose $19.95
Safari Snorkel Head $75.00
2.5" Inch Exhaust Pipe $Free
2.5" Plumbing Cap $1.00
2.5" Pluming Gasket $1.00

First off this is for a 22RE but I would image it's the same for any 4Runner.

You will notice there is a wire loom that comes out right behind the air box

You need to open this up in order to fit the Flexible Hose threw

Heres a PIC of the Drilled out AirBox. The Hose beside is flexible 2.5" Shop Vac Hose. (this stretches out to 8 feet) I cut one end off, and fish mouthed the Other end so the Air Filter fits in the air box. Theres a metal rod Threw the opening to hold it in the air box

Installed in the Air Box

Back Side Sealed up

The Blue Cap is just a PVC Plumbing Cap. I can remove it when Driving on the Road, and CAP it when off road so that I only breath threw the Snorkel Pipe

Part 2 coming up in a minute

looks real good, the only thing i would have done is use the 3" pipe, it kind of looks a tad small. But still looks good, nice work.

3" Was too Large to fit threw the fender.
Plus when you bend 3" Pipe on a mandrel it kinks it pretty Bad. and looks ugly!

Ill post pics of the 3" bent

how come everybody puts the snorkel head on facing forward? It seems like it'd be smarter to put it on facing the back so when you hit the water it doesnt spray up into it

thats the only advantage i see but it cant be that great, its not like your making a supercharger out of tubing. and if it is then why not twist it around when your about to go offroading

What you did was Crush Bending. Mandral Bends do not crush the pipe at all the pipe stays the same diameter throughout the bend. Where Crush bending make the pipe smaller diameter through the bend.

edit
heres a quick ebay link to some mandrel bent U's

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Exhau...mZ120215392998

notice no crushing.

the snorkel heads are designed to shed any water that would get splashed up, making rain etc no problem with it facing forward. the effects of more cold air outweigh the "negatives" of water splashing
