I've never done that kind of wheeling, and I'm used to having to navigate slick rocks, where you may have control for one second, and a second later, I've just slid off the rock and into a tree. Luckily, the tree was there sometimes. So, Steve, if off-roading is my thing, which it is, where would you move to be in the middle of it all, say 2-3 hours from a ton of awesome places to go?

Well, Phoenix, Tucson, Flagsaff or Prescott. For Colorado it seemed like there was more near Denver. You would really need to ask one of them for more details.

Yes. It snows in Flagstaff and Prescott. They are in pines. You can snow ski in Flagstaff.

 

Sweet! I'm gonig to check out the job market in the that area, and see what I can find. Is the cost of living real high there? What would you compare it to?

It's alot less than California. Probably aot like Denver. I don't really know you'll have to look that up to get accurate info.

We have more than two good parks, but the fact of the matter is that we don't have all the open land on this coast that you guys do. On the other hand I enjoy living in this country where we have all the different kind of terrain, I wouldn't have it any other way.

You can bet your ass that I will get out west to wheel. When it will happen is totally up in the air. That is a whole lot of money and a whole lot of time. I want to take full advantage of all the diverse land we have open to us to wheel, hopefully while it is still open to us...

Boy you really were drunk. I'm not copying it really, but took some ideas from it for for sure. I've decided not to do the tire carrier at all, and place the tire in the cargo area. I'm not sure even on the exactness of the tubing sizes yet, until I get a chance to pull everything off and see what's up. It will be very similar to yours though. Heavier, not without the tire carrier.

I would love to be able to use just a 2"x2"x1/4" tube for the cross tube, but I'm afraid of the strength of it. Do you guys think it would be strong enough?

Try to fit a 285/75/16 under the truck in the stock spot and build a heavy bumper around that.

If I did it again, I would leave the tire under the truck. We had a very long conversation about this at Marlins shop when I was there.

They pointed put there was no reason to mount a 285 on the back.

 

Interesting idea! I assume it will fit inside the frame rails, right? I'll work on that, but even though this could be the best route to go, I have to admit I really love the look of it being on the back.

Yes, a 285/75/R16 will fit under there, of course minus the hitch, but it seems that it will sit awful low under there and would drag long before the bumper would, factory or custom. What's the reasoning for leaving it in the stock spot Steve besides CG and visibility?
