Run Idea... Red Creek
#21
Yeah - I wasn't planning on bringing anyone who:
A: Doesn't want pin striping
B: Hasn't wheeled before. I am not ready to hold someones hand - that will be another day/run.
C: Will hold up the others who are present. I don't want to make a 2 hour run into a 6 hour instructional class.
Just my thoughts and if it's not cool, no worries. I will be there regardless. I think this run will be kidless though.

Wasn't trying to shut the door on invites, just wanted to make sure we we're all on the same page.
I knew I was the only one in the group who has actually run the trail, so just giving a better picture of the run.

That I appreciate! The last time I didn't have a good understanding of the trail was when I ran Smiley Rock a couple weeks ago. That's when enjoyment turns to annoyance and 4 wheelin isn't fun anymore! Thanks for the clarification Steve! It's sincerely appreciated!

That'd be great. Jeff is checking with his guy about it. The only problem with these is you have to cut the arms to length and there's a lot more welding. But if we can get the welding done free/cheap, it's defintely a deal.
I've also been looking at how these could be modded to use as a rear bumper. Probably use the 67" version mounted horizontally. plate on top, side tubes, receiver, etc. and you're done.

There are a few parts that will require careful wheel placement and probably spotting for the lower vehicles to avoid getting hung up. Stock height and wheel size will get you through, but not without thinking and choosing a good line. I would consider it a challenge for a stock 4x4, but not excessive requiring body damage or grinding your undercarriage through the rocks.
Not trying to scare anyone off. I know for sure all the rigs at Saguaro can make it. Others are more than welcome to come, they just need to be prepared. On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd rank the Saguaro route (minus the steep hill at the cove) a 2, and Red Creek a 5 due to the few rock sections.
Looking forward to this run. It's going to be a fun day.

I have taken advantage of 'TOPO!' (a sweet National Geographic Topography interactive map) program today at my work (really slow, draggin' ass day today @ the office!) and got some info on the Red Creek Run.
The distance from Bartlett Lake turn off to the 'T' @ Bloody Basin (to go to Sheeps crossing) is approximately 29.21 miles.
The distance from the 'T' to what is marked as the Red Creek Trail Head is 2.99 miles.
The Red Creek Trail itself is 6.41 miles (one way) which is marked 'Jeep Trail'.
It also gives me GPS way points & coordinates if anyone is interested!

John's post reminded me. I do a lot of GIS (geographic information system) work. If any of you ever need topographic maps or aerial photographs, let me know. I can print as big as 36" x whatever. I can also also include a UTM or coordinate grid in whatever datum and system you prefer. If anyone's interested, I can print out a few examples of red creek.
John, can I get the GPS coordinates? Can you output them in NAD 83 UTM Zone 12 format?
oh yeah, this just applies to Arizona.

I actually tracked this run last time I went on my Garmin 60CSX.
I'd be happy to send the file for TOPO, Google Earth or Garmin software if anyone is interested.
Just PM me with your E-Mail so I can attach it.

It's a really cool program. I have begun loading up all my favorite spots and when I get a GPS will be loading the hell out of that. I like this TOPO! because it has a crap load of 'Jeep Trail's' on it - places and routes I didn't even know existed. Plus, I can get distance between points in miles. The BullDog Canyon trail is 5 miles exactly.

My plans to attend the run on the 10th just got put on hold. I had the misfortune of loosing the clutch n the Runner last night. I hopped in to go meet someone and it wouldn't go into any gear without grinding severely! I have a Centerforce Dual Friction on order, got to pull the tranny transfer and replace the tranny/clutch. I found a guy who has a W56 I am buying. So, I will be doing a transplant and not 100% if I can get it finished by the time the run is here. We shall see! I will keep you posted. The clutch is supposed to be here either Friday or Monday.

Need any help? I'm sure a couple of us could help get that in for you. I've never done it, but I have done work on my vehicles. Actually, I swapped t-cases in my Jeep before I got rid of it.
Just throwing this out there.

POSTED in 84-85 Side of Toyota Tech too:
Well, we got the tranny replaced with a good used one (Thanks AZBearsFan!), and put the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in. My best friend and his Nephew came over Friday night on a whim - we had the tranny/transfer out within 2 hours. We called it a night. Then Saturday we got going on it again @ 10:00 AM and had it done by 3pm. We weren't in a big hurry. We took our time.
It all works like a charm - the clutch doesn't have a firm petal. It hooks up great and it drives like a dream. I am very happy with it so far!! I just have to get through the break in period on the clutch.
SO - at this point I would say we would be down for the red creek run. The only change is that we *WILL* have the kids. I have a great thought though - how about we meet for breakfast in Cave Creek before heading out on the run? I think it would be sweet to get some french toast, bacon, eggs, coffee and fresh fruit before hitting the trail. I suggest Harolds Corral. They have a GREAT BREAKFAST BUFFET and enough parking (dirt lot wheelin
) for the trucks! How does 8:00 AM sound?
Here is Harolds Corral website. It is on the eastern part of Cave Creek and right on the way out to Seven Springs Rd.

How many folks want to meet for some grub before hitting the trail? I was thinking Harold's Corral in Cave Creek. They have a DAMN GOOD breakfast buffet! They open @ 8 AM on Sundays.....
