Camping/ wheelin' Labor Day Weekend
My wife and I have invited a couple other TTORA people on a little adventure this weekend. More camping than wheeling, but who knows what we might find!
We are going to be leaving early on Saturday morning and going to Chevelon Canyon Lake (north of Woods Canyon Lake in the Tonto Nat. Forest.
Chevelon Lake Coordinates;
34?29'34.29"N
110?49'32.66"W
We will be staying there Saturday night. Saturday (after some fishing) we are going to drive 20 miles via Forest Roads 169 from Chevelon, and then West on FR 100 then north on FR 34/ Wallace Rd. up to the Hamilton Crossing Trail (Backcountry Arizona Adventures Northeast Trail #37). It is a 10 mile long trail (rated 4 in this book, which means high clearance 4x4, nothing a stock SUV or truck shouldn't be able to handle). This trail ends at a look out that looks down on the Hamilton Creek and Hamilton Crossing. There is a few camp sites there, we plan to stay there on Sunday night. These plans are just tentative and if we find something cooler along the way we can do that instead. There are literally HUNDREDS of miles of forest service roads in this area, so the exploring is endless.
Anyone is welcome to come along. If you want to tag along we can meet in Mesa or up in Payson. PM or post here if your interested. We will be bringing our dogs with us well...so gather up the wife/ girlfriend and let's go camping!
Here are the TOPO maps I have printed out and made notes on. The first one is the route from Chevelon Lake to the trail head. The second is the trail out to Hamilton Crossing.

You will have a nice time up there. Chevelon Lake is a great place and kinda remote. It does require a short hike to reach the lake.
Enjoy the weekend, catch a few trout. BTW - some nice campsites are found near the inlet of the lake.

GREAT TIME! Just ended up being the wife and I. We found AMAZING camping sites...just takes a little exploring and a bit of Arizona pin stripping.
Here are a bunch of photos if anyone wants to see that area. Hamilton Crossing trail was pretty cool. Nothing to crazy, but a little muddy, and narrow in spots. Ends at a VERY cool spot! VERY VERY REMOTE! I don't think there was anyone camping within 10 miles of us. Enjoy.

That was special for my little sister (she isn't so little at 21 years old). She is ALWAYS asking for photos of her little nephew (the bulldog)...so she get pictures of his junk! Just being a good big brother.
