Noob in Phoenix

Hey AZ Crew!
I'm definitely down to do some offroading in Phoenix and surrounding. I have a 2001 Sport 4runner that I am going to be lifting in the next few weeks. Other than a supercharger its stock. I installed the supercharger myself but am not the most confident with a wrench. Anyone had any experience installing the Toytec Ultimate on a Runner? I've read numerous posts online, and it sounds pretty straightforward. Any advice?

Needless to say, I'll keep checking back often as I am definitely down to rally and ride when ever I can while the weathers good. Look forward to meeting you guys.

Ed

We had a great time at Box Canyon. Its changed alot since last time I was there, a bit more challenging than before. It was good for the couple of FJ's with us who were fairly new to wheelin - they learned alot - I hope!

I'm heading out for vacation on Friday and won't be back until the 27th. There is a group of us talking about heading out to Buther Jones on Jan 8th or 16th if anyone is interested, let me know - the more the merrier!

Jeff - Which route did you take? When I last went out, the following route would've been doable with a stock truck. Please comment if you agree.

enter at cottonwood. South / DOWN the waterfall. Out box canyon. (no side trip to martinez).

We didn't do the entire loop; and we started in Florence off the 79 and headed east/north. When we got to that crazy huge waterfall about 2/3 of the way up the trial, there were soooo many quads, and razor/ranger things that we turned around and went back the way we came in. We wern't 100% confident that the FJ would make it up because of its width and the inexperience of the driver although it does have the factory e-locker, sliders, a manual trans and good spotters - she has only been out with that truck 4 or 5 times before this weekend.

The only side trail we did was to the mine addits, but that dead ended for us after a while and we turned around then too and headed back south through Box Canyon to the 79.

But I'm not really sure if a stock height, open diff truck could do that waterfall, but the rest of the trail south of the waterfall would be do-able with the right spotting, some rock stacking and decent driving skills.

I'll post up some pics soon.

Meet and greet & aussie install -jan.

Hey guys just a reminder anyone who's down for a meet and greet and Aussie Locker install at my place is welcome. Getting some cash flow soon (I'm working Christmas day and New Years Eve how lame is that!) so this will be happening some time in January if all goes well!

My shopping list goes as follows;

Feeler gauge (blade kind not loop)
Brake cleaner
General purpose grease
Gear oil (what thickness you guys suggest?)
Ultra gray goo
Thread lock
Drain + Fill plug gasket
and BEER!

Am i missing anything??

I'm looking forward to stuffing this locker in and meeting some new trail buds! Exact date will be posted after New years!

So who's down so far?

I'm I-17 and 101 btw

I have a home made wrench for the side bearing adjusters...worked well on mine when I did it. Don't forget, you're gonna have to disassemble pretty much the whole 3rd member and need to reset the gear pattern on it. Fortunately since youre not swapping gears its just the side to side set up cause pinion depth is already set...the pattern is what you're looking for...both on the drive side and coast side of the gear teeth. Check you pattern and take a picture first that way you can set it back up like it was before.

I'm pretty sure I got whats needed. I don't have any deep sockets and I'm not sure if I'll need that?

That will work for me, unless some irresistable offer comes along (unlikely) that I just can't turn down.
