Where to mount MV-1050 and other questions
Hey I searched for this, but, didn't find too much information where anyone hardwired, and mounted their MV-50/MV-1050.
I have two options which suit my spacial needs, but, do not know which would be more beneficial.
1) I want to mount it up under the passenger side dashboard, on the floor, up above the feet sort of. Almost against the firewall. There is a nice flat area there and the compressor is out of the way, yet still easily accessible. But, running hose from this area would suck, so I might have to make some access points.
2) Up underneath the hood. I don't like it here because I didn't want to open the hood every time I wanted to air up. Of course, once again, I could add access points outside the vehicle.
Ok, now my question. How the hell do I make access points to connect another hose to on each side of the vehicle?
Well, I know how I would do it, but, I don't know what kind of parts I need, and how to attach them without somehow loosing air pressure. Should I just find some rubber hoses with ends already attached, and then attach that to quick disconnect female ends? Also, would this work on an MV-1050, or am I way over my head on this one?
I'd eventually like to get an air tank. I don't know where the hell to mount it though either (under the truck somewheres, but, I'm not even thinking of that yet). I think right now I'd just like to stick to this "easier" setup.

I've got mine in the rear cargo cubby hole things.
I assume there's a little more room in a 3rd gen, because if I tried to mount it in the passenger floor, I think my passengers would get a little perturbed by it's intrusion into their already limited foot space.

im not sure how much room ya got under the hood but... i mounted mine on my '79 on the drivers side under the hood kinda between the coil\ignitor and clutch master. ran a line over to the other side of the engine compartment to a 1\2 gallon reservoir with pressure switch and relay and arb locker solenoid and a fitting for my air hose to hook to for airing up. its a tight fit but it works well for me. im assuming in a newer vehicle with all the vacuum lines and junk theres not much room to work with.

Ok, well, I just mounted it in the engine bay. Ran some hose out to the front, put a quick disconnect on it, and called it good.
Obviously the pressure builds within the hose. I don't like that. What kind of regulator's are you guys using?

im trying to figure out how to cool it better before i mount it anywhere. i just ran it for the first time yesterday and damn does that thing get hot after only a single tire. and i ran it on the ground with a breeze. i dont think i will be putting it inside the cab. 1 heater is enough

Well, you don't have too many options. You don't want to put it where it can get wet and muddy or inside, or get hot. I just chose what everyone else does, and put it in the engine bay, way up off near the side of it. Hopefully it will be cool enough.
I still want to know what sort of pressure regulator you guys are using so pressure just doesn't keep building in the line when its not filling up a tire.

I got mine mounted under the hood in front of my airfilter. I have it plumbed to a 2.5 gal airtank under the bed and wired to a Viair 110/150 psi pressure switch/relay and an arming switch on the dash. I have a single air fitting from the manifold on the airtank to the truck box in the bed nearby my Powertank.

out of curiosity do you have a writeup for routing the switch? that would be really cool. and maybe how you went about making the wiring permanent.. just to get some ideas
i was thinking about using a large air tank from a dead compressor. i dont feel confident in the tube bumper air tank yet. my welds suck still

I'm probably mis-reading your post, but, I think its as easy as wiring up a pair of lights...
Run a high current through the relay. The switch turns the relay on, and then in turn powers up your accessory.
What I don't understand still is the pressure regulator.... I think I should find a tank that mounts up to a frame rail. Any ideas?

Got any pictures or descriptions of how and where you mounted it? I was thinking of doing the same.

Not right now. I can get some tomorrow...
Basically, I am going to plumb in a ViAir regulator/relay, which will turn on when I turn on a switch, but, turn off when the pressure reaches about 150 psi. I am also going to mount up a 2.5 gallon tank.
I put it on the passenger side, where the ABS/Cruise control is. I had to move that stuff outta the way though.. kinda annoying.

i use a viair 1\2 gallon reservoir and on one side i put a viair 85\105 pressure switch with relay. so it turns on the compressor when it gets to 85 psi and off @ 105psi, within range for my arb locker, and more than plenty for airing up.

Yep, Im going to do something very similar...
Going to use this regulator/switch

Then figure out what I want in a tank. I really like the 2.5 gal viair tank, its really sleek looking and could mount along a frame rail with ease.
We'll see though...this stuff really adds up quickly!
