Securing Warn M8000 from thieves??? and $

Hi I was looking into get a winch for my truck. I have found a Warn M8000 for $599 @ http://www.rcsoffroad.com/[/URL] is this a good deal? Also I was just wondering what others have done to secure their winches so they won't get stolen. Thanks

I too am a satisfied Winch depot customer.

As for security, mine is secure in that you have to take out almost a dozen bolts to get the bumper off before you can even start taking the winch off. Enclosed bumpers are good for that.

Thank for helping me save a couple of bucks. I am still somewhat curious on how others secure their winches from low down dirty thieves. If someone had the right tools they could easily steal it. I enjoy going camping and fishing and my truck sits in a parking lot while I may be miles backpacking. Has anyone ever had a winch stolen from their vehicle or heard of one gone missing before? Thanks

If someone had the right tools they could steal your entire vehicle. You are counting on the complete pain in the butt it would be to remove the winch from the bumper. The only winch security measure I have seen was SteveO's bracket to secure the clutch lever on his winch. If I remember correctly, that wasn't to secure the winch but to keep a thief from freespooling it easily and snagging the winch line.

Put a tack weld on the nuts/bolts holding it on. Most thieves won't be carrying a grinder or torch with them...
