tranny and dual case question

alright this is like 2 questions for the price of one...... my buddy has an 87 runner that needs a new tranny.... i have a 85 4runner that needs dual cases..... a friend from work rolled his 92 truck 4cyl just wondering if it's possible that the tranny will fit the 87 and the tcase will work for the 85.... i know i being lame but let's just say i would never post a question like on pirate... my yota tech homies are always good to me

hey what about the forward shift vs top shift issue on the tcases i thought those two were not compatible?

looks like you never got an answer...so...here goes.

The 84-88 W-series were Top shift, EFI cases. The G-series of the same year were forward shift carb cases.

The trans will not fit his 87 4Runner, because his case is top shift. The 92 trans/case are forward shifting. Also, if you are looking at using that case for your dual case setup, you will have to have it converted to a top shift case. Your 4Runner used a top shift case as well (being 85 EFI) so both cases in your dual case setup will have to be top shift. The only thing that is possible in this case is for your buddy to use the trans AND case out of the 92. Keep in mind, floor modifications will likely be necessary.

thank you mr cougar i think i will keep looking for my set up and my buddy will probably keep looking too because he already has duals in i might still grab the tcase as a core if the price is right
